If we start thinking of workers as human beings, whose human needs we are obliged to recognize, then we'll have to think about other needs they have.

I mean, if we admit that human beings need sick days, we'll end up admitting that all human beings need health care. And clearly we aren't ready to do that.

I have no answers for why Michigan made such a drastic swing from Democratic labor majority to Right Wing oligarch majority. It started during the Reagan years and has never swung back. Even when we've had Democratic governors, the legislature was almost always majority Republican. Even more baffling is the fact that for many decades our two senators in Washington have been Democrats.

When the recession in the 80s sent former auto workers to other states to find work, the unions fell apart and they've never recovered. Then the automakers moved south where they wouldn't have to pay the kind of wages the unions fought for up north. Michigan lost out because our entire economy depended on the building of cars and we've never fully recovered, but that doesn't explain the rise of the Right in our state. I wish I knew.

Well there are population controls that we must consider; I mean those with real diseases will die and leave room for the better DNA, as it were.

And of course, people will find reasons to get sick.

And survival of the fittest is of import.

And of course, I might lose a couple million bucks of my 'salary'.

JUST SO THAT I AM NOT RESPONSIBLE FOR THE GODDAMN VACCINES.

Smarter folks will get the damned vaccines.

Some of us are still trying to figure out why Rick Scott was voted back into office here in Florida. I know voters in other states are also demoralized by the last election. I was in a conversation today about it with some people. I did get a chance to tell them about all the lynching in the northern counties after the Civil War until the 1970's. That Florida had the honor of being in 3rd place for the most. It was like the light went on in the group. The counties that all this went on in that past have sent some of the strangest and out of touch people to the Congress and State House. That this was the product of a 150 years of local single party fascist politics in the plantation belt in Florida. The GOP just simply gerrymandered them into power nationally and state wide.

But how do we explain what is going on in the Great Lakes area? Why are people so willing to accept this mean style of politics and go along with it? Why are they allowing worker rights to be diminished? Why are they allowing the assets of Detroit to be sold off and the city to be taken apart at fire sale prices? Why are they refusing to pay for public educations for their kids and grandkids?

It is a sad state of affairs. The whole goal of the Koch bros and their buddies is to return this country back into a colonial economy. The states that they have taken over are now being run like that. I live in Florida the colony of the Koch industries which are now polluting the St. Johns River and killing the fish and wild life.

A Wall Street Journal editor took a shot at the do nothing congress this week. It was behind a pay wall so I could not read it but other bloggers wrote about it. The editor pointed out that congress should not let the far right crazies trash the place by letting them run things. I wonder if there is a battle for the heart and soul of the Republican party starting to heat up. Koch's plan to buy the election with a billion dollars and their John Birch philosophy is not in the best interest of all business and inovation.

All we can do is keep trying to defeat this.
