We should be cautious about arguments from silence; at least in accounts as brief as these two were. One of the guys was on a tour of the prison; I doubt the warden was eager to tell him about the horrors within the walls.

Tue, 31 Mar 2015 18:32:55 +0000 Aaron Carine comment 206383 at http://dagblog.com And you don't think they http://dagblog.com/comment/206371#comment-206371
In reply to I didn't see anything in the

And you don't think they would have mentioned canings & rape?

Tue, 31 Mar 2015 14:15:24 +0000 PeraclesPlease comment 206371 at http://dagblog.com I didn't see anything in the http://dagblog.com/comment/206370#comment-206370
In reply to Oh, I"m sure the 5000

I didn't see anything in the two accounts of Changi prison to convince me that it is more humane than American prisons. The journalist said they had to sleep on the floor, while convicts in America get beds. Possibly the medical care is better, although I wonder if no convict in America would say they are "pretty well looked after" in terms of food and medical care. There was nothing said about rapes, so we have no basis of comparison in that matter. I also would have liked to have read something about the punishments in Changi prison; do they include canings?

Tue, 31 Mar 2015 13:03:46 +0000 Aaron Carine comment 206370 at http://dagblog.com ...shouldn't chase other http://dagblog.com/comment/206056#comment-206056
In reply to Yes, those of us who taze in

...shouldn't chase other spouses?

...soon come to rue the day?

...should keep our spotwelds to ourselves?

...keep up with current events?

...should turn the heat/voltage down a notch?

...chaise in the workshop?

can't find le mot apropos...

Tue, 24 Mar 2015 23:13:46 +0000 PeraclesPlease comment 206056 at http://dagblog.com Should not spit gum on the http://dagblog.com/comment/206055#comment-206055
In reply to Yes, those of us who taze in

Should not spit gum on the streets of Singapore.

Tue, 24 Mar 2015 22:53:27 +0000 NCD comment 206055 at http://dagblog.com Yes, those of us who taze in http://dagblog.com/comment/206053#comment-206053
In reply to Do you and I presume Michael,

Yes, those of us who taze in glass houses...

Tue, 24 Mar 2015 20:17:14 +0000 Michael Maiello comment 206053 at http://dagblog.com Oh, I"m sure the 5000 http://dagblog.com/comment/206052#comment-206052
In reply to How many of the five thousand

Oh, I"m sure the 5000 killings were all lawful, as all the NSA & telco surveillance and overthrowing Libya without Congressional approval and treatment Gitmo & death-by-chokehold and whatever else. That was tantamount to denying that human rights are universal--outrages in other lands are okay because they are just part of their quaint traditions. In one of his books, Will Durant asserted that women in India didn't mind being oppressed. We've seen how that was poppycock.

Tue, 24 Mar 2015 18:35:40 +0000 Aaron Carine comment 206048 at http://dagblog.com
