Our church's take home message was that Sodom was destroyed because of the way it treated the poor as noted in Ezra. The overall point was to be careful about calling other people sinners as a diversion from doing what you need to do to "get right with God". You worry about your own failings rather than those of others. Help those in need rather than being a social critic.

If Gays are wrong, so is having unkempt hair and cross-breeding animals.

http://leviticusbans.tumblr.com/post/23730370413/76-things-banned-in-lev...

Fri, 10 Apr 2015 14:34:57 +0000 rmrd0000 comment 206746 at http://dagblog.com I was invited to speak at a http://dagblog.com/comment/206745#comment-206745
In reply to Perhaps this was a

I was invited to speak at a church by the pastor. Often the congregation is ahead of the pastor. One glaring example of hypocrisy by an older preacher is Jamal Bryant of Baltimore. Bryant is an adulterer but condemns homosexuals. If Leviticus held the only passages that we were to obey, adulterer Bryant has no place in the pulpit.

Your circumstances differ from mine. Was the rejection from a speaking committee form by church members, the pastor alone, or both?

Fri, 10 Apr 2015 11:22:20 +0000 rmrd0000 comment 206744 at http://dagblog.com These are serious issues. Ido think that Christians should challenge other Christians to encourage change. You note that the concept of Biblically-based slavery was challenged within churches. Jim Crow was challenged by Christians. Christians challenged opposition to women in the pulpit. Homophobia is being challenged from within the church. Homophobes are being stymied. Christianity cannot be used as a shield.

Since Christians are changing and are treating Gay people as brothersand sisters, what are the homophobes to do? Corporations are now said to have religion so they can be free to discriminate on religious "principles". A business is now a religious entity. Legislatures override the will of the people and try to craft laws that give more "religion" to a non-breathing entity. These politicians were stunned by the backlash when they tried this trick in Indiana and Arkansas. The legislators had minimal religious support. Christians did not show up in droves to attack the rights of Gay people. The homophobes are now left with legal tricks, they have lost the Christians.

Fri, 10 Apr 2015 02:44:42 +0000 rmrd0000 comment 206738 at http://dagblog.com
