Thanks Flower. Also Momoe and O-Kat below. I guess by now that anyone wishing / willing to respond has done so. I wouldn't be a bit surprised if Kasich were to get the nomination and I agree with your reasons. I should have set it up better because I was intending the question of picking a candidate to be based the debates so far and things they have said about their positions as a direct part of their campaign. I agree with kat below that there is a lot more that can be known about them than what they claim when in campaign mode but I believe the most significant percentage of voters are not that deeply involved.

On that basis my choice is Rand Paul because I think he is the only one with a foreign policy stand that approaches sanity. He also is most reasonable on drug laws. That said, he is a Republican and that says more than anything else or at least enough about his candidacy but the short video I'm adding [2minutes 13 seconds] says something about him too that probably goes for most everyone of them in all parties. I got a laugh out of it and, coincidentally, It even has people being called slimy but I bet the charge fits an awful lot of them.

I watched the debate a few hours after it was over on youtube. Should I answer based on what was said in the debate or on everything I know about the candidates? I disagree with 99% of every republican candidate's views. The closest I came to half agreeing with a candidate last night was when Rand talked about marijuana. But his reasoning focused on medical marijuana and state's rights. Since I favor federal legalization including recreational use I couldn't vote for him.

I did not actually see the debate because I don't have cable, but if I had seen the entire spectacle instead of bits and pieces on the morning news, I'm pretty sure my choice would be Kasich simply because he seems more like a ringmaster rather than one of the clowns.

I want someone who is not a hothead, not a prima dona and not out to prove how aggressive policies will make him a hero to the masses. I would like to see someone who can make the pretty horses go around in a circle without too much whip snapping, not someone who will be poking the bears with a stick until they bite heads off.

Let it be known that after casting this mythical vote, I will be moving to England to live under the newly elected socialist there. And possibly a rock.

Of all those here who watched last night's debate I would like to ask participation in a thought experiment. Pretend that you have the deciding vote for President of the United States but it must be cast for one of the group on stage last night. Which one of those whom you would presumably consider to be the lesser evil would you choose and for what reason?

I will give my choice and reason sometime later after those who might choose to respond have done so.

Trump is the GOP poison. It wasn't a debate but a smack down match. They were rude to each other. At least Trump did tone down his nastiness to women.

I was glad that I lost the feed to CNN.

To wrap this up. I thought the 2 debates were crappy. The kiddy table was a little better because there was less on the stage.

Did I learn anything new about them? No.

I do think this will be the high point for Trump. There is more to getting elected then standing on stage and making speeches.

I do hope some of these guys soon burn themselves out.

Who won? Nobody. Carly might get a bump out of this.

I bet the audience for the GOP debate will drop off on the next debate. It was hard to watch them pick on each other. It reminded me of kids bickering. CNN lost control several times to the point it was annoying.

It is painful to watch a party die on stage.
