Sorry to hear about your experience. I haven't read Sanders statement, but I agree their are forces around that will use terrorism focused on the LGBT community to vilify Muslims. Both the shooter and his father seem to have mental issues.

The NYT filters out that God (Allah) stuff out, the Dad says:

“I don’t know what caused this,” said Mr. Mateen, speaking in Dari, a language spoken in Afghanistan. “I did not know and did not understand that he has anger in his heart.”

CBS had the same Telegraph quote on God punishing gays, and more about Dad from CBS:

In his Facebook videos, the alleged gunman's father has often appeared wearing a military uniform and declaring himself the leader of a "transitional revolutionary government" of Afghanistan.

If you want the unfiltered news, UK press is more reliable.

I guess the NYT is engaging in irritating fact withholding 'political correctness' in not reporting the father, a Muslim, believes God will punish gays. Of course, if Pat Robertson said that (again?), it would be reported, but no one would be surprised.

Thanks. I may be a little off kilter right now as lightening struck the house next door in Dallas last night and set it on fire---five fire trucks responded, lost air conditioning, etc. Pretty nerve racking.

I nope you're right, Ramona. I fear the volume of our voices will be drowned out by the feckless compliance of politicians that fear being attacked by the political assault of the NRA.

I'm tired of the tears of all humanity being for naught. I'm tired the world makes me cry so often. I'm sad there is so little hope that this problem can ever be addressed and solved. I'm sad for the lives that were lost, and the lives that will, in a very short while, be added to the list of those lost to gun violence.
