I wrote about a fantastical journey once.

I had lost my friends.

I had found a job driving a truck following high school; it was forty hours a week.

I was in my basement 'apartment' underneath my mum's home.

And Timmy knocked at my door.

Dick, we have a journey that we must accomplish with you.

It was in the summer. I had this job for the first time that paid over two bucks an hour.

I had lost contact with my old friends.

I was preparing for college so that I would not be shot in Vietnam.

And I would never deny Timmy, my best friend access!

You need to go for a ride, Timmy said.

I was astounded. As it were?

Well, that summer, following our graduation, I had had the opportunity to drive a small truck.

And I was terrible at driving that truck.

However, following a couple of months attempting to drive a stick, I became quite adept at it. Or adrept at it as I recall.

So, I answered the door upstairs, since mama was lost in her regular drunken stooper. hahhaha

And Timmy said: LETS GO.

So, Timmy or the rest of the league wished to make fun of me, I said OKAY.

Now Timmy was less mean, as I recall.

And Gary, his older brother was not to be found. (It was Gary's GTO).

So Timmy put me in the driver's seat.

And, I had wlready discovered the magic of the stick, as it were.

And so I took over the stick drive of a GTO and....whoooooooom

Or whoooooosh. Each drive was wonderful.

I had actually managed the stick drive. However, I had never experienced the stick drive of a GTO.

First, then second, then third and fourth....

And then the FM radio played LayLa.

And I shifted into second and then into third and then into fourth on Portland Avenue.hahahha

It was smooooooooth. ha

We were speeding at that time in suburbia but there were no Negroes present of course we were never stopped.

BUT DAMN, LAYLA?

SO, I shall never forget LAYLA.

And the rest of the band, so to speak, never made fun of my driving again.

hahahahah

here we go again

We have (at least some of us) so few times of wonder that we experience and yet I recall every second of this experience. hahahahah

Why do I write this right now? At this particular time?

I dunno

But I recall this moment in my history like it was last night. hahahah

I guess this aint so funny no

You can take something that makes no sense whatsoever. (I always liked whatsoever)

And you somehow make sense out of it. hahahhaha

Maybe you are right after all.

Shooting the clown might be taken as:

Oh give it up, this is idiocy

Oh give it up, these folks are nothing but clowns.

Nobody shows up and you show up Mr. Smith. hahahahahah....

.CLOWNS are different than peeps just being happy, I guess and not pretending to make

other folks happy for money and ice cream sales. hahahah

Sometimes, an analogy is so apt, it comes into the language immediately upon coinage. "Jump the shark" is one example. "Truthiness" is another. I think you've just revealed a third one, "Shoot the clown." Thanks for laying out the case for "Shoot the clown" being included in the panoply of preferred metaphors.
