Just playin' devil's advocate/different-humorous perspective. I don't particularly care, though I will acknowledge the Constitution + first amendments were very well written as a succinct guiding and asting legal brief. Our current representatives cant likely get a single piece of legislation written without a huge bonehead error to work out later. Of course presumably the Founding Fathers' biggest enemy was overseas and not each other.

I'm not comfortable with this "love" talk either. But conservatives have made it an issue by accusing us of hating America all the while claiming how much they love America. They even chant it. I like that some are addressing it in ways I somewhat agree with even though I'm not entirely comfortable with they way they address it.

Hmmmm, I thought we loved America like some S&M role-playing in our spare bedroom or some really hot girl/guy we can't get out of our heads. I'm not really up for this boring adult guiding light - like when I think of the founding fathers, it's like getting tongue from your grandfather. Yecchh. Skip forward to the inventors or the explorers or later protesters...

I thought this was a good article to share on July 4. So often I hear conservatives criticizing liberals for "hating America." It's simply not true but there is a difference. This article postulates a reason for the different ways liberals and conservatives "love" America. It reminds me of this quote from: Lies and the Lying Liars Who Tell Them by Al Franken.

We love America just as much as they do. But in a different way. You see, they love America like a 4-year-old loves his mommy. Liberals love America like grown-ups. To a 4-year-old, everything Mommy does is wonderful and anyone who criticizes Mommy is bad. Grown-up love means actually understanding what you love, taking the good with the bad and helping your loved one grow. Love takes attention and work and is the best thing in the world. That’s why we liberals want America to do the right thing. We know America is the hope of the world, and we love it and want it to do well.
