Progressive movements have to be diverse because Conservatives have allowed their movement to be taken over by racists, bigots, homophobes, and misogynists. Occupy Wall Street was not diverse. The battle against "Stop and Frisk" was black and Latino with some white activists. Reverend Sharpton reached out to the LGBTQ community, realizing that Gay men were targets of "Stop and Frisk". Reverend William Barber, the leader of Moral Mondays a protest against voter suppression that began in North Carolina, led a diverse coalition. Van Jones became a leader in the environmentalist movement because the movement largely ignored the black community.

Occupy Wall Street is an afterthought. "Stop and Frisk" has been largely curtailed. The voter ID law in North Carolina has been halted by an Appeals Court. Progressive activists need to realize that listening to the concerns of diverse groups is critical for success. Blacks, Latinos, and Muslims see the world from a different perspective than many white activists.
