I don't know about you, but my fascination with Trump's candidacy began long before he won the GOP primary, even before he became the front-runner, and the ratings suggest that I'm far from alone.

So I think you've got it backwards. We're not fascinated by Trump because the media covers him so much; the media covers him so much because we're so fascinated by him.

Trump made deportation a foundation of his campaign in the Republican primaries. Now, in the wake of the softening, we are supposed to wait until Wednesday for Trump to "clarify" his position. Anyone else would be labeled a flip-flopper at best by MSM. Trump is getting a pass for hiring a white supremacist. Compare that to the pounding Obama took for Reverend Jeremiah Wright.

Well, yes, it is the media's fault that he gets so much coverage. Who else could have done it as effectively? My obsession wouldn't be there if their obsession hadn't taken them to such lengths. Now we have a creature larger than life dominating the airwaves, building a terrifying following by lying and exaggerating and punching buttons, bringing hate out into the open, giving bullying a toehold, and, even worse, turning politics into shallow entertainment.

The fact that he is this close to becoming president makes no sense, so of course we're all fascinated to the point of obsession. But it didn't have to be like that.

I'm obsessed with who he is, how he got here, where he's going, and who's going down with him.

Mona, I've become a Trump junkie too. I read far more about him than I do Hillary. If some of the more respectable media sources refused to cover his shenanigans, I know that I would read the other ones. When so many of us are so hungry to read about Trump, is it really the media's fault that he gets so much coverage?

If the current press corps were around during the height of the Civil Rights movement, they would have focused on J Edgar Hoover's charges about Martin Luther King Jr.'s adultery and downplayed the police riot at the Edmund Pettus Bridge.
