In an interview last week with an Israeli television station, Clinton said, “Take Trump supporters and put them in two big baskets. There are what I call the deplorables -- the racists and the haters and the people who are drawn because they think somehow he’s going to restore an America that no longer exists.” The other basket, she said, was made up of Americans who simply feel the government has let them down and are searching for an alternative.

But Clinton’s self-inflicted problem was in her specific phrasing at the fundraiser, Democrats said. “You assign a number, as Mitt Romney learned, and you end up defending the number,” said Mo Elleithee, director of the Georgetown Institute of Politics and a veteran of Clinton’s 2008 campaign.

So she fixed the problem.

Sun, 11 Sep 2016 01:45:16 +0000 barefooted comment 228245 at http://dagblog.com Barefooted ... to save me http://dagblog.com/comment/228243#comment-228243
In reply to OGD ... Right? The racist, sexist, homophobic, xenophobic, Islamaphobic — you name it. And unfortunately there are people like that. And he has lifted them up.”

She regrets one word: "Half".

Stay focused on that if you so choose, but I think I'll focus on her bigger point. It's consistent with what she's been laying out about Trump for some time now and the people he's not only attracting, but actively seeking. Her campaign believes it's a conversation that needs to be had - Trump is a major party candidate running a hateful campaign targeting hateful people for votes. We must discuss that ... or be very sorry we didn't. So if she gets some heat and keeps it in the news cycle as a genuine critique about this election? Good for her.

Sat, 10 Sep 2016 21:26:38 +0000 barefooted comment 228236 at http://dagblog.com So she's even nicer. Prove me wrong."

Sat, 10 Sep 2016 16:32:53 +0000 CVille Dem comment 228225 at http://dagblog.com
