They dress and groom like business executives aka bosses. Men and women who probably read how to dress for success somewhere along the way unless they are nepots like your investment friend. I worked decades in finance. There were plenty of nepots in the field. As you say, how successful they were depended on how much of their friends' and family's money they could bring into a firm to manage. Bet your friend dresses the part even if he does have that birth advantage.

Wed, 11 Jan 2017 03:01:43 +0000 EmmaZahn comment 232388 at http://dagblog.com Beautiful by what standard? I watch both the republican and democratic conventions and by my standards the crowd at the democratic conventions are more attractive. The republicans at the conventions all look the same and so plastic. So many perms on the women, everyone made up just right. Maybe it's the hippie in me but I like the looser freer look. I've just never found that dolled up for church look very appealing. The democrats look like the diversity that is America. The republicans are all white and all in suits and dresses. The democrats look real and the republicans look like a facade. I'm not just making this up to respond, it's something I've noted for years while watching the conventions.

Wed, 11 Jan 2017 02:59:24 +0000 ocean-kat comment 232387 at http://dagblog.com But lefty bloggers are sexier http://dagblog.com/comment/232384#comment-232384
In reply to The right look: Conservative politicians look better and voters reward it

But lefty bloggers are sexier, amirite?

I have a slightly different theory. I talked to a friend who's successful in investment. I asked him his secret, and it was basically, "from my family background, things fall in my lap". He didn't have a need to search out *any* deals - they all came to him.

Beauty attracts - it's inbound marketing. If the social order works for you, why would you want to change it? Altruism?

Of course "beauty" is often quite fungible. With enough makeovers, even the butt ugly can be presentable. And God knows that money buys those makeovers more than anything, and nothing says beauty like a wardrobe full of designer clothes - who can see past all those labels? A bit of personal trainer and sunny Caribbean vacation rounds it out with both tan and big smile.

Being conservative rounds it out with opportunity for all (the rich) - you scratch my back, I'll scratch yours awaiting, since a greased palm is the symbol of money velocity, an important economic indicator.

But then again, maybe it's just that folks on the left tolerate less than perfectly bodied politicians because they're interested in what they have to say and not so much their genetic makeup. Just guessing. Our new pres is into some purity ideal, thinks of his 'rents as thoroughbreds (actually doesn't mention Mum so much - something Freudian I'd guess), so this take is passe anyway.

Wed, 11 Jan 2017 00:33:27 +0000 PeraclesPlease comment 232384 at http://dagblog.com
