Refers to McMaster on ABC's "This Week" this morning on North Korea, you can see that @ either this video or the McMaster section of this transcript. I watched the video. Nothing's going to happen right away. They are going to work with China on it. They also intend to act in concert with our allies. Including all of NATO. McMaster sounded so very positive about China it was almost shocking.

Your P.S. made me go to and find a suprise at the new NYTimes article reporting the failed launch when I might not have. Trump probably will not be rubbing it in because we might have had something to do with it failing and that would be due to Obama's program:

But the North’s launch-failure rate has been extraordinarily high since Mr. Obama first accelerated the program.

In an unusually worded statement that left hanging the question of whether the United States played any role in the latest launch’s failure, Defense Secretary Jim Mattis said: “The president and his military team are aware of North Korea’s most recent unsuccessful missile launch. The president has no further comment.” [....]

Even if this failure wasn't our fault, it wouldn't be wise to make it sound like it wasn't. Neither is Trump wont to give Obama credit even if Mattis advised that it would be smart to suggest we had something to do with it, which he clearly thinks shouldn't be done. Cheshire cat is the way they've decided to go.

Trump is getting his information about East Asian affairs from the leader of America’s largest rival in the region.

This is an important point I've been thinking about. This is the first time I've seen anyone in the news media bring it up, though there's no discussion of it in the article. Everybody is focused on the "Nobody knew it was this complicated" meme when in fact everyone moderately knowledgeable knew. The other point is that whatever Xi told Trump to get him up to speed in the 10 minute history lesson was likely a very propagandized version. And Trump bought it. A briefing paper by experts from the state department on Chinese/North Korean history as it pertains to the current nuclear problem would likely have been very different.

President Donald Trump recounted an absolutely astounding detail about one of his conversations with Chinese President Xi Jinping in comments published by the Wall Street Journal on Wednesday afternoon. Apparently, Trump came into his first meeting with the Chinese leader, in early April, convinced that China could simply eliminate the threat posed by North Korea’s nuclear program. Xi then patiently explained Chinese-Korean history to Trump — who then promptly changed his mind.

“After listening for 10 minutes, I realized it’s not so easy,” the president told the Journal. “I felt pretty strongly that they had a tremendous power [over] North Korea. ... But it’s not what you would think.”
