Trump probably will not be rubbing it in because we might have had something to do with it failing and that would be due to Obama's program:

[...] The timing was a deep embarrassment for the North’s leader, Kim Jong-un, because the missile appeared to have been launched to show off his daring as a fleet of American warships approached his country to deter provocations.

Cmdr. Dave Benham, a spokesman for the United States Pacific Command, said the military had “detected and tracked what we assess was a North Korean missile launch at 11:21 a.m. Hawaii time April 15.”

The missile blew up almost immediately, and the type of missile involved is still being assessed, he said.

Over the past three years, a covert war over the missile program has broken out between North Korea and the United States. As the North’s skills grew, President Barack Obama ordered a surge in strikes against the missile launches, The New York Times reported last month, including through electronic-warfare techniques. It is unclear how successful the program has been, because it is almost impossible to tell whether any individual launch failed because of sabotage, faulty engineering or bad luck. But the North’s launch-failure rate has been extraordinarily high since Mr. Obama first accelerated the program.

In an unusually worded statement that left hanging the question of whether the United States played any role in the latest launch’s failure, Defense Secretary Jim Mattis said: “The president and his military team are aware of North Korea’s most recent unsuccessful missile launch. The president has no further comment.” [....]

Even if this failure wasn't our fault, it wouldn't be wise to make it sound like it wasn't. Neither is Trump wont to give Obama credit even if Mattis advised that it would be smart to suggest we had something to do with it, which he clearly thinks shouldn't be done. Cheshire cat is the way they've decided to go.

Sun, 16 Apr 2017 10:48:14 +0000 artappraiser comment 236614 at http://dagblog.com I still think that Kim is http://dagblog.com/comment/236610#comment-236610
In reply to NYT just posted an article,

I still think that Kim is more intelligent than Trump. That is pretty scary.

PS: Just got the news that N Korea launched a missile that blew up. I'm sure trump will rub that in, because how could he not?

Sat, 15 Apr 2017 23:52:14 +0000 CVille Dem comment 236610 at http://dagblog.com Trump is getting his http://dagblog.com/comment/236606#comment-236606
In reply to Trump on North Korea: “After

Trump is getting his information about East Asian affairs from the leader of America’s largest rival in the region.

This is an important point I've been thinking about. This is the first time I've seen anyone in the news media bring it up, though there's no discussion of it in the article. Everybody is focused on the "Nobody knew it was this complicated" meme when in fact everyone moderately knowledgeable knew. The other point is that whatever Xi told Trump to get him up to speed in the 10 minute history lesson was likely a very propagandized version. And Trump bought it. A briefing paper by experts from the state department on Chinese/North Korean history as it pertains to the current nuclear problem would likely have been very different.

Sat, 15 Apr 2017 22:49:31 +0000 ocean-kat comment 236606 at http://dagblog.com NYT just posted an article, http://dagblog.com/comment/236597#comment-236597
In reply to U.S. Navy sends strike group toward Korean peninsula

NYT just posted an article, with the rundown on the missiles on view at today's parade, with analysts quotes:

https://www.nytimes.com/2017/04/15/world/asia/north-korea-missiles-pyongyang-kim-jong-un.html

Sat, 15 Apr 2017 19:37:26 +0000 artappraiser comment 236597 at http://dagblog.com Salvaged North Korean rocket http://dagblog.com/comment/236520#comment-236520
In reply to U.S. Navy sends strike group toward Korean peninsula

Salvaged North Korean rocket parts show key components were supplied by Chinese firms

headline story @ The Washington Post right now

Despite Beijing's public efforts to rein in North Korea’s provocative behavior, Chinese companies continue to act as enablers, providing the isolated communist regime with technology and hardware that allow its missiles to take flight, according to current and former U.S. and U.N. officials and independent weapons experts.

Thu, 13 Apr 2017 15:49:43 +0000 artappraiser comment 236520 at http://dagblog.com Trump on North Korea: “After http://dagblog.com/comment/236496#comment-236496
In reply to U.S. Navy sends strike group toward Korean peninsula

Trump on North Korea: “After listening for 10 minutes, I realized it’s not so easy”

By Zack Beauchamp @ Vox.com, April 12

President Donald Trump recounted an absolutely astounding detail about one of his conversations with Chinese President Xi Jinping in comments published by the Wall Street Journal on Wednesday afternoon.
