I expect Pence to go down with Trump, even though I think he'd be much less charismatic than Ryan. Still, if/when Trump burns out, there will be more collateral damage for Republicans than the top 2 positions, and it *will* translate into a major cleansing in Nov 2018. Americans can endure and even abet/encourage thievery. My guess is they won't abide out and out treason, and that's where we're headed is such a verdict.

That said, I always thought it quite possible that Trump could resign or be convinced to resign. Just started reading this at The New Yorker ("How Trump Could Get Fired;The Constitution offers two main paths for removing a President from office. How feasible are they?") and right in the beginning I see

A reminder that Trump's general modus operandi has been to walk away from anything that he sees as a fail. So that he can always be a winner. The failing is blamed on others. The others didn't let his genius shine as a dictator, so he walks.

And everyone in the GOP would by this stage probably prefer to work with Pence or Ryan. With whom they could execute plans more efficiently.

Be careful what you wish for?

Edit to add, I just got to say that this is related: those who think Obama voters who switched to Trump are enemies of the left of the aisle and not worth chasing because they all must be racists or idiots or whatever...some of these people would have never voted for Pence or Ryan alone. Theu voted for Obama and for Trump because of some promises made or hopes arisen that were common to both, even if just imagined. And are not common to the GOP.

One can only hope. I would have been highly skeptical this could have happened to near this extent 6 months ago, and while we're making progress, part of that progress is discovering just how much bigger the real problem is. I'm again reminded of the fire ants in my barn - they seemed persistent but relatively harmless until I started digging under the roof and such to find how they'd worn all the beams and support structure away.

And a number of these cases will proceed at state level, where Trump's power of the pardon is nil.

& pardons don't apply to impeachment, which has a chance of playing soon to theaters near you, Inch'allah.
