For more than a decade I felt that the majority of the Saudi royals, as slimy as they might be in other ways, wanted to modernize their society along these lines. It's just that they were beholden to the Wahhabi clerics for their very existence, stuck in a devil's bargain. Good to see that they've finally got some spine.
