Since Trump abdicated his moral leadership after Charlottesville, the well-connected have used their leverage — like checkbooks and celebrity — to send a message about what truly makes America great.

The growing number of groups canceling galas, stars boycotting ceremonies and chief executives resigning from advisory boards is further isolating Trump.

People in his orbit say the president has been in a sour mood about all of this. He stormed the barricades, but now he’s the one under siege. Unlike most of the criticism he’s engendered since taking office, the past week has actually impacted his bottom line. The value of the Trump “brand,” which he once said is worth billions, has taken a bath since he declared that some “fine people” were protesting alongside the neo-Nazis and white supremacists at the University of Virginia [....]

Mon, 21 Aug 2017 17:54:54 +0000 artappraiser comment 242006 at http://dagblog.com More Charities Cancel Fund http://dagblog.com/comment/241995#comment-241995
In reply to 5 more charities drop Mar-a-Lago fundraisers

More Charities Cancel Fund-Raisers at Trump’s Mar-a-Lago Club

By Christina Caron for NYTimes.com, Aug. 20

[....] Over the weekend, the Preservation Foundation of Palm Beach and the Palm Beach Zoo and Conservation Society became the latest nonprofit groups to cancel galas at Mar-a-Lago. From googling, I see recent news is that liberal Dems in Congress are still on her about conflict of interest on China licenses but not GOP (the latter have worse things to worry about, to be sure)

She and Jared did the on vacation thing to evade Charlottesville and then she did the one tweet as regards Charlottesvile, maybe suggested by or even written by their rebbe. I am cynical enough about them to think that to have her do it was also strategic. She separates herself from Jared that way, and he is the one that is going to be involved in the Mueller investigation.

Why get into all of this? Watch for what Trump does as regards China? Maybe no coincidence that Bannon is arguing to a liberal columnist about trade with China being a # 1 long term issue. Trump may even know this part of history: how China helped Nixon repair his brand.

Sat, 19 Aug 2017 18:45:31 +0000 artappraiser comment 241932 at http://dagblog.com A friend just pointed out in http://dagblog.com/comment/241930#comment-241930
In reply to 5 more charities drop Mar-a-Lago fundraisers

A friend just pointed out in an email to me what I think is a major point:

Trump must be thinking: Trumpco brand bleeding like a stuck pig. We may even lose the Russkie types, it's so bad! That's yuge yuge problem.. Trumpco must repair that somehow or have a heart attack.

Tony Schwartz knows Trumpco well. He said in May There is no right and wrong for Trump. There’s winning and losing. And that’s very different from right and wrong. Right now he’s in pure terror that he is going to lose He said Aug. 16 Trump must be isolated. Resistance every day. The end is near but must keep pressure high. The circle is closing at blinding speed. Trump is going to resign and declare victory before Mueller and congress leave him no choice.

Whether or not the result is resignation, it's clear he has to do something to bring back the brand somehow, it's either do that or curl up and die. It could be war or another kind of false flag, but actually with how he's been putting Afghanistan decisions on delay rather than even demagogue that, I have doubts about that. I don't know if he has any sense of mortality coming soon, if he does he still would worry about legacy of the brand. In which case he might try to pump Ivanka? Just a thought.

Sat, 19 Aug 2017 18:24:32 +0000 artappraiser comment 241930 at http://dagblog.com
