I did actually wonder (not something Barry claims, just a thought of mine) when I posted that "100 physicians" article whether that was promotional p.r. But then I didn't think it mattered. Either people are interested in buying a gawk at dangerous bloody risk or they're not. I see the NFL as extra popular precisely because it's got so much dangerous gladiator violence and vicey versa for pro baseball

Wife beating and Traumatic Brain Injury - sports at its best. What we got behind curtain #3, besides a set of sparkling crystal and cutlery or a riding lawnmower? Oh yes, Vegas as a newly rebranded "family friendly" city. "That's a stripper, son - now finish your Tony Tiger milkshake or we'll be late for the Pirates ride..." It was at least tolerable when it was a bastion for tawdry and down-on-your-luck, with an occasional good buffet special to pull in the suckers. But now it's charter vacation glitzy mecca for the whole gang. I bet Liberty U "christians" have no trouble rationalizing the cognitive dissonance - trained in balancing multiple angels on the head of a pin.

The group of more than 100 ringside doctors, whose members have decades of experience and have worked hundreds of major bouts in New York, Nevada and other jurisdictions, is arguing that McGregor, the mixed martial arts champion who will be fighting in his first professional boxing bout, is overmatched by Mayweather, who is 49-0 and considered the best boxer of his generation.

“We were very surprised this bout was even sanctioned and was going to be permitted to carry on,” said Larry Lovelace, a doctor and the president of the organization, which is focused on preserving fighter safety. “The thing I really fear, truly fear, is that somebody’s going to get really hurt in this upcoming fight.” [....]
