Yes, it is very similar to how the USSR propaganda arms tried to play U.S. race issues. It is interesting history because plenty of lefties fell for the cynical ploys to co-opt struggles of the left in the U.S. Then the irony when McCarthyism reared its head, where many of those targeted were just people falling for Soviet propaganda out of that type, not "moles" trying to destroy our country but simply agreeing with some of the Soviet agitprop. Perfect example of the enemy of your enemy is not always being your friend, motives are important, solidarity not always what it is cracked up to be.

Russia hasn’t improved its view of black Americans as Sambo since days past. Langston Hughes wrote about how Russians assumed all black people could sing and dance when he participated in a Soviet cultural exchange. Robert Robinson, a black man who wanted to become an engineer, was blocked in the United States. He was lured to Russia where he did become an engineer. He was used as a chip to make political points. He faced racism not surprisingly. He actually had to plot to escape Russia.

Many worshippers kneel to pray..... the Order of the British Empire is often given to the kneeling honoree....people kneel at graves in respect for the dead.

The NFL players contract for this season says players "should" stand for the anthem. Not "must stand". Should, like would or ought, is not a legally compelling word.

And most NFL players respect the Constitution, troops and the flag more than Trump and Republicans.

Milly Ivins said "I would rather see someone burn a flag while wrapped in the Constitution, than someone burn the Constitution, wrapped in a flag."

The players are individually showing respect for what the flag represents to them.

Trump mocked a Gold Star mother while troops were fighting and dying in Afghanistan. Pence backed him.

Trump mocked and denigrated McCain while disabled and wounded veterans filled our VA hospitals. Pence was silent.

Trump is just getting material for his next Adoration Rally to excite the mob. The fans? They will go back to football no matter how long the kneeling lasts, complain, gripe, yet get used to it, because they absolutely love the game.

The NFL players are the canaries in a coal mine. The guy in the White House is directing business owners on how to control protests. The government is curbing free speech. Meanwhile, Republican legislators in multiple states are crafting bills to curb protests. What we are witnessing is not a trivial matter.

You can always quit your job. Or risk getting fired and have to hire a lawyer to argue you are protected from being fired. Or if it's covered by the EEOC, you at least don't have to pay for the lawyer, but it will take you a very long time to get that fair deal.

In the case of the NFL, that's easy: it's very clear to me that those supportive of protest should boycott! It's not like it's a fucking public utility, though some of the benefits local governments give them make me wonder sometimes.

It's frigging entertainment. An area where soooo many people dream of working, and never get a chance their whole life. This is why there is the rolling of the eyes about even giving "workers" in this field the rights that others in less glamorous jobs presume, because they think I'd not only lick the boss' boots, I'd kill for that job. No other reason. (See Harvey Weinstein, for one example.)
