WASHINGTON (AP) — A military investigation into the Niger attack that killed four American service members concludes the team didn’t get required senior command approval for their risky mission to capture a high-level Islamic State militant, several U.S. officials familiar with the report said. It doesn’t point to that failure as a cause of the deadly ambush.

Initial information suggested the Army Special Forces team set out on its October mission to meet local Nigerien leaders, only to be redirected to assist a second unit hunting for Doundou Chefou, a militant suspected of involvement in the kidnapping of an American aid worker. Officials say it now appears the team went after Chefou from the onset, without outlining that intent to higher-level commanders [.....]

Niger Ambush Came After ‘Massive Intelligence Failure,’ Source Says

WASHINGTON — A senior congressional aide who has been briefed on the deaths of four U.S. servicemen in Niger says the ambush by militants stemmed in part from a "massive intelligence failure."

The Pentagon has said that 40 to 50 militants ambushed a 12-man U.S. force in Niger on Oct. 4, killing four and wounding two. The U.S. patrol was seen as routine and had been carried out nearly 30 times in the six months before the attack, the Pentagon has reported.

The aide, who spoke on condition of anonymity because he is not authorized to speak publicly, said the House and Senate armed services committees have questions about the scope of the U.S. mission in Niger, and whether the Pentagon is properly supporting the troops on the ground there [....]

That approach seems very limiting to me. As more data comes in, you analyze and see if it alters your opinion. For example, in the discussion on profanity, I felt that blacks could not expect whites not to use the word nigger. I dislike the word, and I think that it will die out. As more data came in, I actually saw that whites were punished for using the word. High school students, college students, Bill Maher, and Martha Stewart all received pushback for using the word. I came to accept that by society shaming whites caught using the word, the word has been taken back.

In the discussion on white Trump supporters, as new information comes in, I don’t see them becoming Democrats. With 46% of the country and 76% of Republicans feeling that MSM is creating fake news about Trump being reported yesterday, I am not optimistic about a change in attitudes. If people have different data, they are free to post it.

I think discussion can, in some cases, change opinions. If there is a shift in white Trump supporters after they see the sticker shock on changes to Obamacare funding, I’ll point it out.

2. Myself, I'm really not into "dialoguing" the same things over and over and over, life is too short. And I never liked debate. Like to make my point and move on.

We have to face reality. 46% of the public thinks that news media make up stories about Trump. The percent of Trump supporters who believe that there is fake news is 76%. We put ourselves at risk when we believe that the public is going to magically turn to our side. We have to energize the true Democratic base to save the country.
