My eldest graduated from EMU several years ago. I haven't gotten a response from him yet about this but I do recall him being rather upset about it.

Unfortunate. Fake hate crimes like this are often used to justify feeling that hate crimes against blacks are overblown. Similar diversionary statements were issued after a fake rape case was reported in Rolling Stone.
