So sad, She was one of my favorite authors. The Left Hand of Darkness and The Dispossed were great novels, deep and thought provoking, but even her lighter stuff like The Earthsea Trilogy was great story telling. With so many sci fi authors writing the same story about war in space there's so often some unique take on the subject matter for example The Lathe of Heaven.

That book is a workout. She wrote it after teaching some of the pretty advanced Clarion science-fiction-writing workshops.

The good ones do leave their marks forever. But some of the great writers only get recognized as giants looking back. I think there are people writing today who will also be remembered as great, some of them for work they haven't done yet.

She was surely a giant in that field. But I think she was a giant anywhere. The field she happened to be standing in at any given moment didn't matter.

Beautiful, Doc. She was something else. Yesterday I bought "Steering the Craft" and I love that the first thing she says is that this is not for beginners. I expect a workout! There are so few writing giants left anymore, but the good ones leave their marks forever.
