strikes me that there's a difference though, as even it were true, people will slow down to look at a car crash. Is clear to anyone by now, as opposed to the inauguration, that people would tune in to this SOTU just to see what he did.This is where his narcissism gets extra crazy, because he equates adoration with ratings, he'd rather have attention of the mass quantities of people than adoration, everything according to the "no news is bad news" p.r. thing.

Brings up for me all the problems the world has with a troll as president of the U.S., you can't not feed him, as his trolling is part of the whole political game. If you're political, you can't not feed a demagogue.

But this particular demagogue really is a troll. Though he hasn't really gone far this way yet, he could very well betray fans for ratings, he doesn't care if you are upset with him or hate him as long as you are paying attention to him.

Carrying this line of thought even further, it's clear he took advice from professionals for the speech, stuck to the script. But he doesn't always do that if he instinctively feels it won't get him ratings, hence the defiance disorder mentioned in Howard Kurtz's new book.

Tomi Lahren, the Conservative pundit fired by Glenn Beck’s Blaze for being poor-abortion now works for Fox News. In her Twitter repo d to Kenddy’s Speech, she attacked his manhood. She later deleted the tweets, but they were captured before deletion (because we are in 2018). Lahren’s response is typical of what we get from modern Conservatives. They are authoritarians.

I just saw a really good Brit body language expert analyze his tricks on BBC News. She started her remarks with this: he's improved, has gotten frighteningly better at this....I thought spot on. While I didn't watch the whole thing from what I watched, it was like a light bulb hearing her little segment, as in: oh I see, that is exactly what seemed different, he was just recently coached on adding body language to the teleprompter speech. All his gestures and motions were what slowed it down, they were very purposeful and synched with the script. Not natural, to be sure, but whoever worked with him tried to use his moves that we already know, liked pointing up with one finger, etc.

Looks like 47.7 million watched, compared to just over 48 million for Obama's first SOTU against a somewhat smaller population base. I wonder how much of it is a kind of NASCAR effect--some attending/tuning in, in part, to watch the crash they anticipate? Or...more of the reality TV thing?
