Fox News Reporter Says Military Leaders Thought Trump's Parade Idea Was Actually a Joke

Defense department officials reportedly worried the parade would make the U.S. look like a dictatorship.

Fox anchor says Trump should play with toys, not hold a military parade

Fox anchor Shepard Smith on Wednesday mocked the president’s parade proposal in a conversation with correspondent Jennifer Griffin.

“He could go see the tanks at a military base if he wanted to,” Smith said. “Or they could give him replicas. Little mini replicas. I mean, he wants to see what he has. I had some of those when I was a kid.”

Smith added, “You can get the little plastic ones and lay them out on the table and say, ‘Here you go.’”

Griffin made a joking suggestion of her own.

“We can play strategy and Risk,” she said.

On Wednesday, Sen. Lindsey O. Graham (R-S.C.) told reporters that a parade aimed at specifically demonstrating American military might was “kind of cheesy and a sign of weakness.” Sen. John Neely Kennedy (R-La.), added that, “America is the most powerful country in all of human history, everybody knows it, and we don't need to show it off.”
