Not having read any details, I'd guess there was no "problem" - he just showed displayed what he intended.

The article describes the chef as conducting a sociology experiment. The chef hired a student to create an exit interview form. The problem with the experiment is in the way it was set up.

Couple of reactions: 1) the reporter says the restaurateur Tunde Wey charges ppl of color $12 but asks whites to pay $30 - do ppl of color include Asians? 2) It is disappointing that Wey has chosen to equate blackness with poverty and whiteness with affluence. This formula all but guarantees continued racial strife. A much more effective and fair political strategy would be to offer reduced prices to all low to moderate-income patrons. This would serve to unify poor and working folks of different races and ethnicities rather than to divide them. It would also disproportionately benefit African-Americans since as the proprietor points out, they are much poorer on average.
