(Boy, I can only imagine if we had it back in '69, high school woulda been really really different, we handful in a school of 2,500 published two issues of an alternative newspaper before the principal shut us down)

Because: they are the new "kids next door", they are the boomers' kids, this is what they are like even if their parents are conservatives, they know them as human beings. Senators Urge Gun Law Fix While Students Protest Nationwide

One month after the Parkland massacre, a Republican from Texas says the federal system used to vet firearms buyers can be quickly reformed.

[....] at a Senate Judiciary Committee hearing Wednesday as students left classrooms across the country to protest gun violence, the gun industry, and what many of them consider to be America’s dangerously lax gun laws.

Senator John Cornyn, a Republican from Texas, urged bipartisan legislation that would close gaps in the existing federal background check system to better spot criminal records of would-be gun buyers.

“We could pass the ‘Fix NICS’ bill today,” Cornyn said at the hearing in Washington, referring to the National Instant Criminal Background Check System. The initiative has also earned the endorsement of the National Shooting Sports Foundation, a firearms industry trade group [.....]

The hearing was attended by Florida senators Bill Nelson, a Democrat, and Republican Marco Rubio, as well as officials from the Federal Bureau of Investigation, the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives and the U.S. Secret Service. Ryan Petty, who lost a child in the Parkland shooting, and Katherine Posada, who survived the shooting, also attended.
