I agree that this article is way creepy. One of the ten most offensive comments was the one about him being handsome. Ugh! But really, he is just oily enough to win the hearts and minds (?) of GOPers. I think it is good that most people in power have him figured out though.

I do hope that when/if Dems take over they will pass some laws that will require any presidential candidate to submit taxes for the previous 10 years and also to undergo a security check that would be made public.

Really interesting article. In keeping with the Southern twist, I know too many people like Ayers, and they are indeed good at what they do. But his expertise is not due to his Georgia roots so much as his DC need to play; though they work well together. Take this:

Despite his age, Ayers is solicitous in the manner of a courtly older gentleman. Sometimes, he will ask permission from reporters to remove his coat or tie with an elaborate politeness. He is given to grandiloquent declarations of integrity. “One thing I am not, is I am not a liar,” was an example recalled by a Republican consultant who has spoken with him often. “I am always truthful. People can call me a lot of things, but one thing I am is a truthful person.”

Kinda a Mark Twain persona mixed with an old school Washington pedigree (h/t for "grandiloquent") that makes him a necessary component in the eventual Pence presidency. He's much better at it than his boss - and he knows it.

P.S. they have a magazine founded in 2007 in an effort to keep the culture alive: Garden and Gun .Just had an interesting thought: no place for Steve Bannon types in it, that's for sure, he's like "from the other side of the tracks."

I do happen to know a little about the remaining pockets of Stepford Southern culture. The 1950's never left, they still do things like register for silver and china when they get married and can't abide modern art much less abstract. I don't know whether this is good or bad, but I suspect for most of these folk, they would find Trumpco to be hideously gauche.
