"Trump taste" is like art or pornography only in that: you know it when you see it but it's real hard to put into words. Where you use it as a label to explain something that hard to put into words, i.e. "you know, Trump style." I can struggle to explain it with some words a little bit for your thread, throw some stuff out there:</p> <ul><li><em>TACKY</em>. nouveau riche. bourgeois. no class, doesn't get old rich aristocratic taste, very much wants to, but doesn't get it, pitiable rather than pitiful lack of confidence even though wealthy</li> <li>preferring things look to look clean and new. doesn't get patina of age, wear and tear of age something to be embarassed of, doesn't get antiques or maybe even doesn't get history</li> <li>actually liking the concept of the original Coney Island and Atlantic City and "carny world" in general instead of appreciating them ironically</li> <li>not getting that part of the allure of Las Vegas is that it has zero pretensions to "class", just the opposite, it is the ideal of American classlessness</li> <li>Queens (and Brighton Beach, Brooklyn-Russian immigrant) taste. Tony Soprano's New Jersey taste. Recent immigrant taste. What immigrants think high-class America is gonna look like.</li> <li>Homogenized. Wonder Bread.</li> <li>Many many degrees away from the<a href="http://dagblog.com/link/rising-camp-how-arch-sensibility-got-political-24744"> level of irony needed to navigate current mass culture </a>much less elite culture</li> <li>not able to enjoy the real fruits of luxurious living in a sensuous manner, instead always anxious about whether things appear "classy" enough</li> <li>appealing to wealthy Chinese tourists (replacing Japanese tourists who used to be like that but aren't anymore)</li> <li>Worth Avenue in Palm Beach, FL.
