As odd as it seems, I have only recently listened to, and gained an appreciation of Weird Al Yanukovich . It occurs to me, after listening to en entire album of his, that he needs to do a couple of songs dedicated to the theme:

I think a large part of his argument is that stubbornness in the name of honor is no longer good enough - and while that goes against the grain, there's something to be said for the theory that without the power what good are the morals?

His idea about California is certainly, well, out of the box. As is the notion that if we regain power we pack the SCOTUS with liberal justices since, in his interpretation, nothing in the Constitution says it has to be limited to nine. Then again, that's more or less what he's contending that Republicans have done for decades: use a vague Constitution to forward their "procedural war".

Faris's distinction between "procedural war" and "policy fights" is very helpful. I have long thought that Gingrich's party purity moves are the center of gravity of the G.O.P. we see today.
On the other hand, one of the redeeming features of the Democratic Party at the present moment is that it is hellbent on winning on terms of policy. Maybe such stubbornness is not enough to gain power but it is honorable.

The idea of breaking up California into multiple states is an interesting way of approaching the inheritance of the Electoral College from a different direction.
