Jones, a stay for the duration of the Trump presidency must be denied," the opinion stated.

Myself, I was uncomfortable with it then, so I should be now, I guess.

There was no #MeToo back then. Though it should be pointed out that the "vast right wing conspiracy" was doing a faux #Metoo because it served their aims of digging and their immediate goal was a perjury trap, but it was also an opportunist venture in case that didn't work out.

My main point ,I guess: since they did it themselves, no one should be surprised if they think it's a conspiracy now!

A summary for the youngins and those with poor memories: Monica Lewinsky was not the initial main game, it an unexpected surprise sideshow that developed out of seeking out Paula Jones to sue the president for sexual harassment (using Linda Tripp and Out of that came more #MeToo's, Kathleen Willey et. al.

This is the #Metoo problem of faux allegations writ large. There's no getting around it now, as far as any President is concerned, because of so many pols now being found guilty of sexual harassment or similar.

Surprise surprise footnote I found googling, says it all:

Tripp was fired from her Pentagon job on January 19, 2001, the last full day of the Clinton Administration. Tripp believed she was fired in retaliation for her whistleblowing efforts that led to Clinton’s impeachment. Her claims were not supported.

Tripp Today

After more than 20 years of silence, Tripp is back in the media as an outspoken opponent of the Clintons. Especially during Hillary Clinton’s presidential campaign, Tripp repeatedly described Hillary as a key leader in White House efforts to cover up allegations of Bill’s involvement in sexual harassment. Tripp has also stated that the recently publicized assault allegations of powerful men, including Harvey Weinstein and Roy Moore have caused her to "relive a lot of it."

Interesting also to read Mike Isikoff looking back on it now, including Weinstein, #MeToo.

[....] Now who does that sound like in today’s environment?

Harvey Weinstein.

Exactly. In that context then, you have to look at what flows from it. The later Kathleen Willey allegations, and the Monica Lewinsky thing. We start to see a pattern of—at the very least—reckless conduct by the President of the United States.

What drew you to these stories, at a time when many Americans still thought the personal lives of their presidents should be a private affair? [....]

So many ironies, including little bizarre ones like Tripp's media friend Lucianne Goldberg, friend of Drudge, on the blue dress, is the mother of Jonah Goldberg. The latter now a virulent conservative Never Trumper pundit. He was just a dopey kid starting out blogging at the time.

Fri, 18 May 2018 18:48:18 +0000 artappraiser comment 252757 at http://dagblog.com
