The affinity for older people has carried through my life .. There's a "consciousness raising" as it were. Where something may finally end up happening, because congress critters finally get some direct input. It does go in cycles, there's always a new generation that needs to figure things out, and throw in the people that might have known the situation 20 years ago but it's changed.

On immigration, one thing to keep in mind that the positivity is about legal immigration, not illegal.

I think it might be a major midterm voting issue that the Congress has not managed to do a bill. Both because Trump keeps demagoguing it and because he also seems determined to continue with draconian enforcement against illegals and making things difficult for even green card holders. So many stories about so many nightmares along the lines of yes, as you said "this is our neighbor, he's one of the good ones" just might do it. What all the polls mean combine with what Trump is doing and the whole DACA problem just suggests to me that all voters, even those who supposedly want to be tough on immigrants, want some new laws from Congress on it. Even Trump says he wants that. And they can't manage to do it. It's not going away and looks like it's going to be a factor in the elections for every candidate.

Thu, 05 Jul 2018 20:09:14 +0000 artappraiser comment 254617 at http://dagblog.com I see polls like this all the http://dagblog.com/comment/254616#comment-254616
In reply to % o Americans who view

I see polls like this all the time that seem to show that a majority of the public supports the democratic position on many issues. I really don't know what to make of them since they don't seem to effect elections or policy outcomes. Perhaps it comes down to the senate where 500,000 people in Wyoming get the same number of senators as 39.78 million California. What ever the reason I don't think we should celebrate too much when it seems like the majority agrees with us.

Thu, 05 Jul 2018 19:08:10 +0000 ocean-kat comment 254616 at http://dagblog.com % o Americans who view http://dagblog.com/comment/254615#comment-254615
In reply to Shifting Public Views on Legal Immigration Into the U.S.

% o Americans who view immigration as a "good thing" for America:

2014: 63%
2018: 75% https://t.co/grNYheOjEf
— Ezra Klein (@ezraklein) July 5, 2018

Thu, 05 Jul 2018 17:33:57 +0000 artappraiser comment 254615 at http://dagblog.com
