It invokes UK unity against a huge insult and threat, and despite years of invective, that threat isn't the guys in Brussel patiently negotiating with a petulant and deluded UK Brexit team.

Farage was clever - for 24 hours. Now that Trump has delivered his shit sandwich, he's also a cunning manipulative treasonous maggot. Making the front page of tabloids everywhere was a great triumph - I.e. splashingly ostentiously won the battle. And even more hugely lost the war. Those huge crowds? They got the laconic Brits out in the street against Trump. But soon they'll be coming for May or whoever, as it's been made even more clear how dishonest these Brexit puppetmasters were. And the ties between Farage and Putin as steadily divulged by Mueller and that Welsh reporter Cadwalladr for The Guardian makes it more clear.

BTW, it's extremely fortunate that Croatia beat UK in FIFA (ironically in Moscow), as otherwise the nation would be solidifying under football rapture, but now that huge disappointment adds to the growing rebellion. On to the Bastille. Oh, guess who UK's playing for consolation prize today? Belgium. Even more delicious - once again they can mess with each other in a dance that's largely irrelevant to what's really going on.

Sat, 14 Jul 2018 07:37:00 +0000 PeraclesPlease comment 254899 at http://dagblog.com Did Trump Just Help Stop http://dagblog.com/comment/254894#comment-254894
In reply to Boris Johnson resigns, escalating London conflict over Brexit

Did Trump Just Help Stop Brexit?

By Andrew Sullivan @ NYmag.com, July 13

He just humiliated Theresa May, but the endorsement of a despised U.S. president may prove to be the Breixit hardliners' undoing.

Sat, 14 Jul 2018 03:41:28 +0000 artappraiser comment 254894 at http://dagblog.com Boris Johnson Has Ruined http://dagblog.com/comment/254808#comment-254808
In reply to Boris Johnson resigns, escalating London conflict over Brexit

Boris Johnson Has Ruined Britain

“He knows that the verdict of history is about to come down on him — and bury him.”

Op-ed by Jenni Russell @ NYTimes.com, July 10

Ms. Russell is a British journalist.

Wed, 11 Jul 2018 03:44:25 +0000 artappraiser comment 254808 at http://dagblog.com I guess the bots have http://dagblog.com/comment/254804#comment-254804
In reply to The British political class

I guess the bots have switched all their attention to the US.

Wed, 11 Jul 2018 02:41:06 +0000 CVille Dem comment 254804 at http://dagblog.com "[...] advancing his career." http://dagblog.com/comment/254803#comment-254803
In reply to sounds like vaguely familiar

"[...] advancing his career." is right. He still has his eyes on 10 Downing Street.

Wed, 11 Jul 2018 01:22:49 +0000 barefooted comment 254803 at http://dagblog.com sounds like vaguely familiar http://dagblog.com/comment/254801#comment-254801
In reply to Boris Johnson resigns, escalating London conflict over Brexit

sounds like vaguely familiar behavior along the lines of not only "there is no such thing as bad publicity" but also "publicity uber alles":

The fact that @BorisJohnson arranged for a photoshoot of himself signing his resignation letter for the front pages tells us everything we need to know about him.
