Edit to add: comes to mind that being a White House reporter these days seems very similar to dealing with an airline after they've lost your luggage or a cell provider after they've moved the tower and don't want to admit it or a health insurer over whether something is covered. The general idea: just give up on your complaint, move on with your life, can't you see how unimportant it is (to us, that is,) you'll bankrupt yourself trying to fight us, silly....

He just doesn't care that he babbles all kinds of stuff to reporters because his whole shtick is making up stories in his head and just sharing them and then if he doesn't like how it turns out he just denies it was said... never even gets to the stage of "you misunderstood me" because his just denies all the parts of his constant verbal diarrhea that don't end up playing well. Comes to mind that the pain of dealing with this little character flaw is seen in John Kelly's behavior soooo often.
