He now writes cautionary notes regarding Iran based largely upon being able to remember stuff that happened more than two weeks ago. So he has never been a sword into plowshares kind of thinker but more of a bang for buck critic who has learned that not all of the promotional material may be accurate. Fool me once, shame on you, fool me twice, shame on me.

George Will just wants what he wants. A convenient donkey came along and George decided to load decades of G.O.P sin upon its back before slapping it upon the ass to motivate a journey into the desert.

McCain without Trump would probably be coasting into some kind of unremarkable policy barn if he wasn't specifically called out to be tossed into a dumpster fire. While that is directly related to the emergence of Trump, the personal animus involved makes it oddly irrelevant. Who needs who to prove what about what? McCain is one of the builders of the G.O.P. Trump is his creation.

I have got Frankenstein on the other line.

Edit to add:
I guess I am not really offering an alternative view from the "upside down" perspective. But the world before is all still there with the same relationships between different interests. It is just buried under a heap of viscous goo.

Fri, 13 Jul 2018 12:40:29 +0000 moat comment 254864 at http://dagblog.com Good to see Beinart trying to http://dagblog.com/comment/254861#comment-254861
In reply to NATO Doesn’t Need More Defense Spending

Good to see Beinart trying to get the left of the aisle thinking like: the left of the aisle. As in: used to be for less defense spending.

I was thinking how Trump antics in general have turned so many of the traditional political beliefs upside down and backward when I saw a headline today @ The Hill about Dems applauding the FBI in a hearing. And it got me thinking: gee, what have things come to, in my day, the FBI was like Dem enemy #1 and vicey versa.

And then I moved on to thinking how Morning Joe is no longer a Republican and George Will is telling everyone to vote Dem and how John McCain saved Obamacare....

and why has all this upside-downy stuff come about: being against Trump or being for Trump is all that seems to matter anymore. Which means: the narcissist troll is still winning.

Again, good for Beinart, he's trying.

Thu, 12 Jul 2018 23:28:46 +0000 artappraiser comment 254861 at http://dagblog.com
