The poverty of Miller's "architecture" that is really a mishmash of enforcement instructions from a chaotic executive branch while Congress abdicates its duty to fix the law becomes all too clear when dealing with foreign adoptions:

A Colorado couple adopted a child from Peru. Now they fear she could be deported.

When Amy and Marco Becerra first laid eyes on the girl they would soon adopt, she was a tiny, 11-day-old baby in an orphanage in Peru. A woman there told the couple that the infant had been abandoned, Amy Becerra told KDVR News.

“She literally placed this little five-pound, 4½-pound baby in our hands and said, ‘Do you think you guys can take care of her?’ ” she told the news station.

The Becerras, both U.S. citizens who were living in Peru at the time, agreed to foster the child in 2014. They named her Angela and for three years watched her grow from infant to chubby-cheeked toddler.

It wouldn’t be so easy. Angela’s application for immigration to the United States kept getting delayed. After more than a year, the Becerras were able to bring Angela to Colorado — but only on a tourist visa that would expire Aug. 31.

Still, they hoped Angela’s immigration application would be approved before her tourist visa expired. However, the Becerras checked last week on the status of the application online and saw grim news: The toddler’s case for U.S. citizenship had been denied.

The decision baffled the Becerras because they are the only parents of record listed on Angela’s birth certificate, Amy Becerra told KDVR News last week. She added that they were still awaiting a letter explaining why Angela had been denied citizenship and had consulted immigration attorneys, to no avail [.....]

Makes me wonder if Miller might be okay with making it work out that U.S. citizens can adopt Russian babies again?

Anyone with a halfways decent education can see your comment as a silly red herring to divert attention away from the op-ed that has been so successful because it echoes the powerful classic Emma Lazarus/Statue of Liberty narrative. I think Ronnie Reagan would give you a big fail. Try something else, this one is not going to work. Actually pretty pitiful to drag "Exodus" in to compete. Especially since anyone who knows anything about that whole thing knows that plenty of Jews found refuge here during that time on a wily-nily ad hoc merit basis.

If you don't get into nuance on this website, you will get few if any buyers. Most of us here are into deconstructing the narratives, not playing with them.

The "America First' movement and the isolationist Republican Party led by Idaho Republican William Borah opposed sending Britain aircraft or weapons for defense. The right wing Republican isolationist "MAGA" crowd of the 30's in America were FDR's major challenge in stopping Hitler.

From the book Roosevelt's Second Act, by Richard Moe, on the Republican platform of 1940, and H. L. Mencken's evaluation of how weak and sleazy it was on helping the democracies. Note the Republican platform statement was copied almost word for word from an isolationist newspaper advertisement placed covertly by Nazi agents in US papers.

“We favor the extension of aid to all people fighting for liberty or whose liberty is threatened,” the final compromise read, “as long as such aid is not in violation of international law or inconsistent with the requirements of our national defense.”

The acerbic Baltimore journalist H. L. Mencken observed that it was “so written that it will fit both the triumph of democracy and the collapse of democracy, and approve both the sending of arms to England and sending only flowers.” It would be revealed years later that the language had been lifted almost verbatim from an ad that had appeared in the New York Times and other papers over the names of isolationist congressmen, written and paid for by Nazi agents.

The way some people and the media are reacting to these warped facts offered in Miller's uncle's rant has become all too typical. His uncle should know that it was the liberal icon FDR's policies that severely limited the number of Jewish refugees allowed into the US because he feared educated and skilled Jews would gain too much power and positions in government and industry. He said they should be spread thinly around the world to dilute their influence and almost 200 thousand Jews went to the gas chambers because he wouldn't take action to modify the rules that kept them out. Trump/Miller's policy on legal immigration is the opposite of FDR's with educated and skilled people offered first place in line to seek resident status. Child soldiers from war torn Africa has nothing to do with chain immigration or the flood of unqualified asylum seekers from Central America. Conflating Trump's honoring the Angel Mothers that were ignored by the liberal media with Hitler's propaganda about the Jews is a sick display of mental illness. These people are the victims of criminal illegal aliens most of whom were criminals before they came here. There are about 800,000 documented illegal alien crominals already in the US and it is a national security priority to deport them. I'm sure people who make these type of statements will be first in line to offer sanctuary in their homes to these migrants.
