Brand Outrage in Dear Leader form sells, looking back now it seems all along he is a precursor warning sign of Trumpism. So many try so hard to dissect Trump fans, sturm and drang about white working class whatever. It could be just something more like at the start of the blogosphere age, a lot of people start looking for a dear leader to put everything in an ideological package for them so they know where to focus their "mad as hell not going to take it anymore" outrage? Even if it is idiosyncratic and not a rational ideology. And they become loyal followers. No coincidence that Greenwald felt after a while that the Wikileaks paradigm was not a good fit because it didn't "curate"? He is an authoritarian libertarian!

Tue, 28 Aug 2018 19:50:01 +0000 artappraiser comment 257019 at http://dagblog.com No need to read if call it http://dagblog.com/comment/257016#comment-257016
In reply to Glenn Greenwald, the Bane of Their Resistance

No need to read if call it "an obsession" - fuck them, get real, it happened and it's happening - huge impactful historical news, not hallucination nor fanaticism.

Tue, 28 Aug 2018 17:03:00 +0000 PeraclesPlease comment 257016 at http://dagblog.com Socialism for Dummies - like http://dagblog.com/comment/257003#comment-257003
In reply to Glenn Greenwald, the Bane of Their Resistance

Socialism for Dummies - like real, bizarroland dummies. Was going to post it on its own, but seems to fit in here, including George Will's takedown of Libertarians (an on-again/off-again Greenwald romance), and a number of other vaunted niches of strange thought.

Greenwald's biggest problem is simply he thinks he's smarter than everyone else, and he's only marginally superior. Michael Hayden, the former director of the C.I.A. and the N.S.A., has written that debating him was like looking “the devil in the eye.” Leading American progressives—speaking off the record, and apologizing for what they describe as cowardice—call Greenwald a bully and a troll. One told me that “he makes everything war.” The spouse of one of Greenwald’s friends visualizes him as the angry emoji. On Twitter, he has little use for agree-to-disagree courtesies, or humor: he presses on. More than one tweet has started with “No, you idiot.” He’ll tweet “Go fuck yourself” to a user with twenty or so followers. A few years ago, Greenwald had a Twitter disagreement with Imani Gandy, a legal journalist, who tweets as @AngryBlackLady; another Twitter user, in support of Greenwald, proposed to Gandy that “Obama could rape a nun live on NBC and you’d say we weren’t seeing what we were seeing.” Greenwald replied, “No—she’d say it was justified & noble—that he only did it to teach us about the evils of rape.”

Tue, 28 Aug 2018 08:31:39 +0000 artappraiser comment 257001 at http://dagblog.com Matthew Yglesias put an http://dagblog.com/comment/257000#comment-257000
In reply to Glenn Greenwald, the Bane of Their Resistance

Matthew Yglesias put an excerpt on Twitter which concerns Greenwald's & Yglesias' use of Twitter:

I’m guessing there are a lot of normie print subscribers who will find this confusing. https://t.co/tpwSwhHKdc pic.twitter.com/6x475WnFYv
— Matthew Yglesias (@mattyglesias) August 27, 2018

Tue, 28 Aug 2018 08:28:36 +0000 artappraiser comment 257000 at http://dagblog.com
