Wow, thank you for taking me on a journey much more important and touching than our kabuki hagiography exercise.Even the queation about Communism is germane, as I mistakenly think a guaranteed income and better distribution would solve much of our humanity, but 1 million imprisoned Uighurs and a continuing Indian caste system highlight the other blights that aren't so easiky vanquished thru Tez and balance of payments. (I.e. IT/Silicon Valley handles easiest problems, even if successively harder - the true difficult problems remain largely untouched and behind national/cultural paywalls).

Liked this thought provoking comment just didn't know what to say to it. Got something now though after reading this on the Dalit, caste system, empire issues of India: Mishra certainly has no answers, he's just a very good grievance cataloguer and empathizer and likes to see linkage that might not be there. Except FWIW, there's some little hints in that piece that he sympathizes that in communism properly executed another time around might lie heaven. I'm cynical, of course. That's all I got for now.

It's interesting watching the Brits embrace Meghan Markle and dance to the passing of Aretha Franklin -xenophobia and racism have taken a beating these last 2 years, even as racists stoke fears.

On the other hand, I'd note that progressives don't gain points by raging against "old white men" and other unfortunate phrasings - however inclusive we are, none of us like to be in the crosshairs of the next wave of political correctness, and are unlikely to meekly march ourselves "up against the wall, motherfuckers".

I also find the assumption that things would be better if only run by people of color amusing/horrifying- witness the ongoing Ortega+wife abuse of power, continual drug war murders in Mexico and Latin America, the Chinese lockdown of a million Turkic Uighurs, Erdogan shutting down civilian freedoms, the Syrian atrocities against civilians, Saudis attacking civilians in Yemen, etc. Add to that the myth that if the America would just step back, all these rights abuses would be fixed. Nope, these vacuums will be filled somehow - badly or worse if not in an active positive way. Unfortunately we've abandoned our quasi-positive role the last 2 years - will we reverse it? (The huge Chinese global expansion bears watching in light of their repressive behavior at home - but there's little air for this topic amongst our daily Trumpian/Russian dystopia)

Nevertheless, we've always fought our civil war internally along with filling the vacuum abroad imperfectly. Parnerships abroad have helped in the past, but now our dolt-in-chief's party is enabling us to ride roughshod over everyone, hold every ally hostage to perverse mood swings and extortionist demands, and in general destroy any mutual agreement painstakingly worked out over prevous administrations. This really has become a way too powerful shithole country, despite our well-meaning minority's objections, and we really need to take it back quick befire permanent damage sets in.
