Collins is saying she'll back Kavanaugh cause he didn't specifically say he'd gut Roe v Wade. Just like she backed the huge-ass tax cut because... well, we don't know. Single rational would be nice one can only hope. and hope. and hope. As for the "threats", perhaps someone used the 'f' word and she clutched at her pearls.</p> <p>- "I'm going to get an army and wipe your people out, man, woman and child."<br /> - "The fuck you will!"<br /> - "Don't use foul language with me, young man..."<br /><br /> Of course Republicans keep pretending they're the party of civility. Not believable, but they get enough people believing anyway.</p> <p>[to be clear, I agree it's probably not smart. I think much of Twitter is based on "oh I wish I had thought of that when I had the chance", with the unfortunate opportunity to go ahead and post it later anyway. There's a reason our brain switches to lower gear in these situations, usually.]</p> </div></div></div> Thu, 13 Sep 2018 08:59:00 +0000 PeraclesPlease comment 258091 at http://dagblog.com Mostly I agree with you, http://dagblog.com/comment/258088#comment-258088 <a id="comment-258088"></a> <p><em>In reply to <a href="http://dagblog.com/comment/258087#comment-258087">here we go, on that was</a></em></p> <div class="field field-name-comment-body field-type-text-long field-label-hidden"><div class="field-items"><div class="field-item even"><p>Mostly I agree with you, expressing anger in this situation is likely counter productive. But it's not just one way that produces change. Sometimes you have to fight. Sometimes you have to man the barricades. Sometimes you have to meet violence with violence. I don't support antifa because they are looking for a fight and if they don't find one they'll make one. But I do think we need to stand firm and be willing to fight when they bring it to us.  In the early years of the union movement it was that they were willing to fight and die when the government and the private soldiers brought violence to them that brought about the changes. </p> </div></div></div> Thu, 13 Sep 2018 06:34:56 +0000 ocean-kat comment 258088 at http://dagblog.com here we go, on that was http://dagblog.com/comment/258087#comment-258087 <a id="comment-258087"></a> <p><em>In reply to <a href="http://dagblog.com/comment/258003#comment-258003">Oh, that...</a></em></p> <div class="field field-name-comment-body field-type-text-long field-label-hidden"><div class="field-items"><div class="field-item even"><p>here we go, on that was stupid. because in a situation like this when you are counting on moderates and/or swings to help you over the top, <a href="http://thehill.com/homenews/senate/406409-left-risks-backlash-in-kavanaugh-fight">they always use any radical/passionate behavior by lefties to pull the overton window over to their side</a>. I.E., we're behaving civil people, they're not, they're nutsy radicals, we must be the safer, wiser choice. It's not the same as the civility argument, what they are playing with is the association of extremism with violence. For something like this nomination, you need to get the people who are "moderate," not scare them with threats. Sending coat hangers is fine, that's like women's march. Threatening phone calls is more like the Antifa counter-productiveness. It's more of a subconscious effect. You actually have to be an extra triple rational person to vote the way people threatening you want you to vote.</p> </div></div></div> Thu, 13 Sep 2018 06:05:40 +0000 artappraiser comment 258087 at http://dagblog.com Oh, that... http://dagblog.com/comment/258003#comment-258003 <a id="comment-258003"></a> <p><em>In reply to <a href="http://dagblog.com/comment/257998#comment-257998">I meant not smart.</a></em></p> <div class="field field-name-comment-body field-type-text-long field-label-hidden"><div class="field-items"><div class="field-item even"><p>Oh, that...</p> </div></div></div> Wed, 12 Sep 2018 16:44:09 +0000 PeraclesPlease comment 258003 at http://dagblog.com I meant not smart. http://dagblog.com/comment/257998#comment-257998 <a id="comment-257998"></a> <p><em>In reply to <a href="http://dagblog.com/comment/257963#comment-257963">As vulgar as taking away</a></em></p> <div class="field field-name-comment-body field-type-text-long field-label-hidden"><div class="field-items"><div class="field-item even"><p>I meant not smart.</p> </div></div></div> Wed, 12 Sep 2018 16:35:36 +0000 artappraiser comment 257998 at http://dagblog.com As vulgar as taking away http://dagblog.com/comment/257963#comment-257963 <a id="comment-257963"></a> <p><em>In reply to <a href="http://dagblog.com/comment/257960#comment-257960">Not a good thing: Collins</a></em></p> <div class="field field-name-comment-body field-type-text-long field-label-hidden"><div class="field-items"><div class="field-item even"><p>As vulgar as taking away abortion rights?<br /> As vulgar as that $1.5 trillion tax reacharound for the rich?<br /> As vulgar as Kavanaugh using stolen Dem documents and lying about it?<br /> My heart goes out to Susan - I know she didn't sign on to all this vulgarity when she joined the Grand Onanistic Party - how was she to know Roger Ratf*cking Stone would be her standard bearer rather than Mike "Lodestar(fucker)" Pence.</p> </div></div></div> Wed, 12 Sep 2018 07:43:49 +0000 PeraclesPlease comment 257963 at http://dagblog.com I listened, she gets it, what http://dagblog.com/comment/257961#comment-257961 <a id="comment-257961"></a> <p><em>In reply to <a href="http://dagblog.com/comment/257957#comment-257957">Christine Todd Whitman scalds</a></em></p> <div class="field field-name-comment-body field-type-text-long field-label-hidden"><div class="field-items"><div class="field-item even"><p>I listened, she gets it, what we are just talking about on the other thread, she doesn't talk about all the complex Mueller plots, she talks about his competence and ethics, she's keeping it simple, she's got a checklist of all the ways he's crazy, incompetent and unethical and stresses how everyone knows it.
