Not quite true - I was in Manhattan last year for Christmas and people were hijacking the 3-star elves and under.
A regular massacre going on in shelf stocking. You could find some desecrated and discarded in alleys just a block away - like a desolation row for consumables. And that "babes in toyland" bit - is it just me, or are we further pushing into the outer limits of sexual poor taste year by year? I mean, since when has Grindr been the go-to for last minute "gifts", and those GPS chimney drops...
