Strikes me as not a bad idea at all for someone selling happy instead of anger to be a part of the Dem primary crew. I fear "a pox on all your houses" reaction if there's a lot of nastiness within the party.Sassy is OK but I feel they have to offer an alternative to the righteous anger thing. We all know Trumpies anger is more faux than righteous but it's all the same to most people in a "can we just stop the insanity?" kind of way. I know you like the aggressive fighter type but I just have this intuition that it's really going to come down to knowing how to stop feeding trolling and presenting a sunny calming assurance. Daddy or mommy going to make it all better.

Yes, that's why I said rough spun. They definitely wanted the lunch pail vibe rather than someone who could be successfully label cerebral or elite. No one like Gore or Kaine.

I got the impression it was more like they were trying to balance Obama's global eliteness. There were lots of white guys and gals they could pick, they picked him because they also needed some sort of lunchpail vibe.

Edit to add: also a secondary thing I took note of--Obama was famously "cool" and cerebral, the no drama Obama thing, the intellectual. Joe was a counter to that with touchy feely weepie (even if fake), in trouble for same touching now--the "I feel your pain" thing

Gore famously stretched the role of V.P. with Bill's approval and did a damn good job of doing that. I remember reading very convincing arguments by historians that he was the best V.P. ever. It's not fair to compare in a way, he had a talent for not losing his gravitas in that job where most do lose it and are humiliated. That actually came back to bite him, mho, when he was running himself, he was a bit too arrogant towards W in some debates. (And there's the everyman/lunchpail thing creeping in there I mentioned in my other comment about Joe. I don't vote like that, but a lot of people do, like my mother, who had extreme emotional I.Q., an empath, but a high school education. She judged candidates on how they interact with others. Like Alice Roosevelt Longworth's famous comment about Coolidge: He looks as though he's been weaned on a pickle!--that kind of thing.)
