Terminology is important.

As there are hardly any "illegal" immigrants coming over the border. Such thing is now a rarity at the southern border. (The "illegals" are more like the ones who come on a plane with a visa and overstay their visa.)

No, at the Southern border, we now have a situation where most are legally and lawfully presenting themselves to border control for asylum. This is where the absurdity comes in.

And Trump has a lot invested in this concept of monsters sneaking over the border, almost a mentally ill like obsession, like with sharks.

Heck I daresay that Canada might grow a greater illegal crossing problem now than us, as they get people who are here in the U.S. illegally who are tired of running and hiding from ICE nazis.

Refugee is the correct word, I don't know if it's going to be a politically correct word, though...don't know if it will help the situation if Congress doesn't get real. Judges will support the law on the books unless Congress changes it!

As for Dem Congresspersons who now have a majority in the House now going to visit holding camps and complaining that it's an admin outrage. Well I don't know if that's going to fly or work for them much longer. The got two choices as I see it: change the laws or get working on funding a huge new intake system and a ton more immigration judges to deal with it. That's where they will get the blame if they don't show that they tried to fix it with some bills and funding.

No matter who he hires and what those hires think is the thing to do, Trump admin. is just going to make a mess of it with such a lunatic obsessive at the top. Clearly it has come to pass that immigration at the southern border has become a deep part of his ego and psychological issues--just like the sharks that Stormy told us about--and people will try to manipulate him on it this way and that, but then he inevitably comes back to the scary bogeyman thing with the duct tape and MS-13. (Which is so fucking screwed up, as the gangs and criminally-oriented men are the ones staying home in most cases now, where they got power, and they, not just poverty, are part of the problem of causing the women and children to flee to the U.S. border.)

Wed, 10 Apr 2019 23:46:22 +0000 artappraiser comment 266727 at http://dagblog.com God already is SORTING THEM http://dagblog.com/comment/266726#comment-266726
In reply to The house can't address or

God already is SORTING THEM OUT!!! While there might be some small possibility to reach a compromise with republicans the president can not or will not cooperate. All he wants is a wall. Just a symbol that will not fix the problem. As the article pointed out this is no longer an immigrant crisis it's a refugee crisis. How to deal with refugees is different than how to deal with immigrants. The state department needs to work with these countries to bring them back from their failed state condition. Trump controls the state department. Foreign aid needs to be substantially increased and foreign aid is anathema to at least the republican base. As usual Trump is proposing a stick rather than a carrot and wants to end foreign aid which his base might like but will make the problem even worse. Mexico must be convinced to slow the flow of refugees through the country. Trump can't bully Mexico into cooperating. His confrontational approach has led to such a dysfunctional relationship with Mexico that it's unlikely to be mended sufficiently to get cooperation. Even if it was possible to mend the relationship Trump isn't capable of negotiating a win/win bargain. Trump can only reach an I win-You lose bargain or an I win-you might think you won too but I scammed you bargain.

Wed, 10 Apr 2019 22:37:04 +0000 ocean-kat comment 266725 at http://dagblog.com Driftglass on history and big http://dagblog.com/comment/266723#comment-266723
In reply to I am reminded of the Rummy

Driftglass on history and big corporate media:

Yes, George W. They know what they’re doing, and they’re doing a terrific job. And it’s untidy, and freedom’s untidy, and free people are free to make mistakes and commit crimes and do bad things.
