I have only been interested in the "more toys" argument in the past when the toys would help save lives in combat. Otherwise I would always think they already have plenty enough toys. But you are right to point out that it's a whole new ballgame now.

Because what Lulu actually posted is a Business Insider news article by Ryan Picknell rounding up some analysis of recent war games by hawkish military guys, as is their wont. The site must pay for a Business Insider subscription.

I looked up the quoted Robert O. Work, he was Deputy Secretary of Defense under Obama and one year under Trump, 2014-2017 before that Under Secretary for Navy, 2009-2013. A Marine colonel before that. He was only running CNAS from 2013-14.

Clear to me what this article is: these guys are pitching a story to the media in order to promote more funds for military development in order to be more competitive (because they believe Russia and China are currently eating our lunch.) Probably sent out a press release saying: all interviews welcome. Seems to me very John McCain wing, maybe with a sprinkling of Obama/Hillary. Mainly pushing the message: our military needs more toys and "smarter" strategery.

I took PP's comment about unpublishing your link as hyperbole for dramatic effect, not as a serious threat. Even if he was serious I'm sure that Wolraich would never allow it. And finally your link was worthless. There's not a single piece of evidence to support any of the assertions made in it. It's pure propaganda. Why would you offer it here when everyone of us can see through it's empty claims? It's by far the worst stupidest link you've ever posted here.

I read the root blog and every comment it evoked and I did so with interest. If I offended anyone by calling the discussion a circle jerk I can only offer the explanation that I was completely sober last night and that tends to affect my thinking as well as make me a little cranky. And I am often a jerk. I would be a bit more diplomatic if I really thought anyone really gave a big rat's ass.

2013 - PP *defending* Lulu against ArtAppraiser and NCD (and sticking up for Greenwald and what I thought unwarranted accusations against Snowden, vs documented Congressional runarounds of FISA & other protections). But then over time, facts change - as did Greenwald, what we knew about Snowden, our relationship to Russia & their behavior in Ukraine & in hacking elections/poisoning dissidents, the humanitarian disaster in Syria, etc... www.dagblog.com/comment/185434
