I was looking up the one Buddhism proponent mentioned, psychologist and author on Buddhism, Robert Wright, and I ran across this video on topic with him. I haven't watched it but I can vouch for the Asia Society, it's a very good nonpartisan scholarly organization dedicated to learning about Asian culture, history and sociology; they wouldn't do garbage. The country voted for a guy who wouldn’t rent to blacks, questioned the citizenship of President Obama, and never apologized for calling for the death of five black young men. The Tribe realizes that you have to always go the extra mile to get equal treatment.

The Tribe confirms your opinion of things

Opinions about the current state of race relations – and President Donald Trump’s handling of the issue – are also negative. About six-in-ten Americans (58%) say race relations in the U.S. are bad, and of those, few see them improving. Some 56% think the president has made race relations worse; just 15% say he has improved race relations and another 13% say he has tried but failed to make progress on this issue. In addition, roughly two-thirds say it’s become more common for people to express racist views since Trump became president.

Blacks are particularly gloomy about the country’s racial progress. More than eight-in-ten black adults say the legacy of slavery affects the position of black people in America today, including 59% who say it affects it a great deal. About eight-in-ten blacks (78%) say the country hasn’t gone far enough when it comes to giving black people equal rights with whites, and fully half say it’s unlikely that the country will eventually achieve racial equality.

https://www.pewsocialtrends.org/2019/04/09/race-in-america-2019/

The Tribe understands.

Those outside the Tribe will come with advice that tells you what you need to do to belong to the larger “oh so caring” total. The others don’t have to do anything because they are already perfect to join their mega-Tribe, all you have to do is be less ......tribal.

The mega-Tribe will also tell you what you are doing wrong in your quest for equality. They have the solution because they’ve been meditating on it.

Thu, 13 Jun 2019 21:55:10 +0000 rmrd0000 comment 268637 at http://dagblog.com So unless you're tribal you http://dagblog.com/comment/268635#comment-268635
In reply to Think about it, billions of

So unless you're tribal you're contemplating your navel? Meditation is presumed to be beneficial in preventing aggression on a national level in a modern, industrialized society. It will be an experiment.

Tribes help move things forward. While people will talk about pity olympics, tribe members see things like high black maternity rates and pressure physicians and medical organizations to address systemic racism. Other tribes recognize the problem and join forces.

Tribes recognize racial bias in how blacks get charged with crimes, how they are sentenced, and differences in jury verdicts, Tribal members set up get out the vote efforts and work to oust overbearing district attorneys. Voters elect district attorney s with a better eye towards social justice.

Tribes recognize voter suppression efforts, and Eric Holder and others establish local organizations to fight back, they also mount court cases.

Tribes see dwindling enrollment in elite schools in places like NYC and put pressure on politicians to change the situation.

Tribes set up #MeToo. It expands to other tribes.

We are conditioned to small groups. Small groups start movements that grow. Martin Luther King Jr. began as the leader of a local bus boycott. This goes on while others deny that racial bias, for example, is pervasive and impacting , health, voting, education, etc. Tribes are told that they focus too much on race, for example. They are dismissed. Tribes seek solutions while others are contemplating meditating about things.

Thu, 13 Jun 2019 20:19:38 +0000 rmrd0000 comment 268630 at http://dagblog.com Rmrd alternative: war, it's a http://dagblog.com/comment/268626#comment-268626
In reply to Hippie culture failed

Rmrd alternative: war, it's a good thing.

Thu, 13 Jun 2019 19:55:07 +0000 artappraiser comment 268626 at http://dagblog.com Hippie culture failed http://dagblog.com/comment/268624#comment-268624
In reply to How meditation and psychedelic drugs could fix tribalism

Hippie culture failed

Leaderless Occupy Wall Street failed.

Getting billions to meditate. Really?

Thu, 13 Jun 2019 19:51:51 +0000 rmrd0000 comment 268624 at http://dagblog.com
