The CDC acknowledges the previous findings of the FDA and state agencies on their website. It is a part of medical investigations to have multiple sources confirm findings. Even though we spend a lot in labor to get it to market uncontaminated and inspect it, batches of it often still cause serious illness. Why do we continually play russian roulette just to have it in salads? Ban it! You want some, you should grow it in your own backyard.

Another example. My 40-something brother got addicted to raw spinach as a snack. There was just something he liked about that oxalic acid taste for some reason. He ate like a bag every other day for several years, and satisfying this craving helped him avoid being tempted by fattier snacks. He ended up in the E.R. in frightening horrific pain with a massive number of kidney stones. If we're not going to ban spinach, we should at least ban Popeye cartoons from promoting this dangerous addiction....as my brother said "why don't they tell people about this danger?"

(Update on brother: he is now addicted to lemon water, as it helps prevent kidney stones.
