After reports of #Baghdadi killing came out, I ruled out the possibility of collaboration between ISIS & a rival group in Idlib by the name of Hurras al-Din (HaD), now the formal face of al-Qaeda in #Syria.

Throwing people under the bus is one of the things Trump does best. Nate Silver thinks Trump should get a free day to float over this betrayal just because the capture part partially succeeded despite Trump's vindictive self-serving and Putin-serving incompetence. Nate was better as a cards and baseball junkie. Meanwhile I suppose Trump Hotel Istanbul is doing "great", while Russians have moved into new sectors in Syria.

Donald Trump loves oil. Donald Trump loves oil almost as much as he hates windmills. So when the President abruptly announced the sudden withdrawal of troops from north east Syria – a decision defense officials repeatedly warned would lead to a resurgent ISIS and compromise U.S. national security – the Pentagon saw an opportunity to use Trump’s affection for fossil fuel to its advantage.

A U.S. intelligence official with knowledge of operations in Syria told the Washington Post that the Pentagon has been telling the President that a full troop withdrawal would lead the U.S. losing control of Syrian oil fields in order to convince him that keeping counterterrorism units and airspace control operations in the region is in the nation’s best interest.

The plan has apparently been working quite well. Trump on Thursday even tweeted, “We will NEVER let a reconstituted ISIS have those fields!”

“This is like feeding a baby its medicine in yogurt or applesauce,” the official who spoke on the condition of anonymity told the Post.

Secretary of Defense Mark Esper briefed lawmakers on the strategic shift Friday, telling them that the President had decided to leave U.S. forces in eastern Syria to protect the natural resource, the Post reported [....]

President Donald Trump’s announcement of the death of ISIS leader Abu Bakr al-Baghdadi revealed a slew of sensitive details about the secret military operation that could imperil future raids, special operations and intelligence, veterans fear.

Trump, who spoke for a full 48 minutes and took a series of questions at the White House, went into unusual detail about the mission inside hostile territory in Syria that he said he watched in real time “as though you were watching a movie."

Among the most striking were his descriptions of how the Army Delta Force was inserted into the heavily fortified compound, breached its walls to avoid booby-trapped doors and pursued the terrorist kingpin into a network of tunnels, where he detonated his suicide vest, killing himself and three children.
