Were they the elite of the time with major sins and some nasty beliefs and willing to settle? You betcha. The elite were the only ones who could have done it. They did that when a huge number of citizens were still illiterate and worried about witchcraft. Did they solve the class problem? Nope, they were the elite and had just started thinking a new way: don't need no ethnic nation state, people can think for themselves, be different from each other, and still tolerate each other.

Chinese still think DNA is everything. Just an upside down version of Britannia (or Spain) rules the others, with the commoners with the right DNA at the top of the pyramid. (Brexiteers currently pandering to that whole thing.)

Sat, 16 Nov 2019 18:40:19 +0000 artappraiser comment 273478 at http://dagblog.com China has detained up to a http://dagblog.com/comment/273477#comment-273477
In reply to ‘Like a movie’: In Xinjiang, new evidence that China stages prayers, street scenes for visiting delegations

China has detained up to a million Muslims, a campaign it calls a benevolent and routine effort against the pull of extremism.
