Couldn't help but notice these three gentlemen and scholars discussing a slightly similar phenomenon of more much recent vintage, the "whiteness explains everything" thing:

What really grinds my teeth is this view that black people could only ever be anti-semitic because 'whiteness' made them that way. If that's the view, you might as well say black people aren't human beings with agency. That they are just products of what social forces dictate.

True. But "whiteness-explains-everything" approach HAS resonated with many people of color.

It has resonated because like any good populism it offers an emotionally appealing and simple answer to a question bugging many people.
