I don't think we have to go back hundreds of years to find Palestinian civilians killed by IDF if not civilians.
Nor do we have to go back hundreds of years to find Israeli settlers encroaching on Palestinian land and depriving them of their homes and livelihood, with their government's support, and now with *OUR* government's approval.

Yes, it's a shame that people were stupid and/or incensed enough to retweet something that could have easily been fake news, but it's also a shame that in 2020 this kind of news looks believable at all to halfway intelligent people. I mean, who'd think the President would just fire off a missile to kill a military leader in a 3rd country for no real reason? Who'd think an Israeli helicopter would land on a peace flotilla with machine guns in international waters and kill a protester, and then excuse it with "but they were holding a wrench"? Who'd think the Israeli leadership could win in 2020 with a peace plan of "we don't have to do dick"? The Palestinians are a largely uneducated and backwards people precisely because of the Israeli occupation and embargo. Yeah, US representatives might know better, and sure, we can say Israel is better than the Burmese towards Rohingya and Chinese towards Uyghurs & Tibetans, but that's pretty damning praise.

Again, someone responded to that thread over "all about the Benjamins", and I still can't figure out how in the age of Bibi corruption indictments along with his loud pampered wife & son, plus Sheldon & Miriam Adelson trying to buy US elections why an old Jewish trope comes up at all - they're the elite, the corrupt Jewish 1%, not the Jewish masses. And they're way too brazen and sloppy to come close to any image of a sinister cabal like the Elders of Zion. Don't we *always* rail about how shitty & corrupt leadership is everywhere? No reason for Israeli leadership to be any different. Maybe we're *all* too backwards & uneducated to parse our current news.

Takeaway one: Blood Libel has been used for centuries against Jews.

So what is Blood Libel? “A really horrifying accusation against Jews,” Berenson said. “And the accusation goes that Jews, for their religious rituals, need to use the blood of a Christian child. That’s got to be one of the ugliest myths of anti-Semitism that’s out there. ... It goes all the way back to the 1100s in England, which is the first incidence. ... It’s an anti-Semitic slander.”

Takeaway two: From England, it spread quickly throughout Europe.

“I’m sorry to be graphic about this,” Berenson said, “but there are works of art from the Middle Ages — some of them are up on the walls of churches in places like Italy — where you see a figure of a Jew who’s stuffing a baby into a barrel, and the barrel has spikes sticking out, and then there’s another figure of a Jew who’s collecting the blood as it drips out from this baby. There’s graphic images of this sort of thing all throughout European history.”

Takeaway three: Blood libel myths have prompted real-life persecutions, murders and pogroms against Jews, starting in the Middle Ages and continuing into contemporary times.

“Nowadays, we have grounds for a bit of worry because in Europe, and also [elsewhere in the world] anti-Semitism is spread through media,” Berenson said [....]

Actually, it got me thinking about a different meme. You rarely hear Jews screaming and yelling that we need to destroy all those old images of Jews as the enemy in church frescoes and medieval manuscripts, etc. It's almost just the opposite, there is activism to "never forget", keep it all, don't sanitize it. There's even organizations like MEMRI to record and promote every instance of blood libel type things in contemporary life, to the point where it sometimes gives a distorted picture.

This reminds me of rumors that got Greek-Turkish passions going in Asia Minor 100 years ago when the Ottoman Empire was disintegrating and John Bennett (later Gurdjieff acolyte) was posted there as a young soldier to sort things out.

Contagious disease in China like the deadly Spanish flu, angry populist governments growing everywhere with more and more interference and breakdown of international agreements - add to that global warming and the robots/cyber surveillance and control - we may finally be on our way to our multiply heralded and long awaited World War III.
