it's actually stressing the wisdom of voting for president according to character and personality over anything else (note The Altantic has dropped paywall for coronavirus related pieces)</p> <p><a href="https://www.theatlantic.com/ideas/archive/2020/03/peter-wehner-trump-presidency-over/607969/">The Trump Presidency Is Over</a> <em>It has taken a good deal longer than it should have, but Americans have now seen the con man behind the curtain.</em></p> <p>10:59 AM ET by <a href="https://www.theatlantic.com/author/peter-wehner/">Peter Wehner</a> Contributing writer at <em>The Atlantic</em> and senior fellow at EPPC</p> <blockquote> <p>When, in January 2016, I <u>wrote</u> that despite being a lifelong Republican who worked in the previous three GOP administrations, I would never vote for Donald Trump, even though his administration would align much more with my policy views than a Hillary Clinton presidency would, a lot of my Republican friends were befuddled. How could I not vote for a person who checked far more of my policy boxes than his opponent?</p> <p>What I explained then, and what I have said many times since, is that Trump is fundamentally unfit—intellectually, morally, temperamentally, and psychologically—for office. For me, that is the paramount consideration in electing a president, in part because at some point it’s reasonable to expect that a president will face an unexpected crisis—and at that point, the president’s judgment and discernment, his character and leadership ability, will really matter.</p> <p>“Mr. Trump has no desire to acquaint himself with most issues, let alone master them” is how I put it four years ago. “No major presidential candidate has ever been quite as disdainful of knowledge, as indifferent to facts, as untroubled by his benightedness.” I added this:</p> <p><em>Mr. Trump’s virulent combination of ignorance, emotional instability, demagogy, solipsism and vindictiveness would do more than result in a failed presidency; it could very well lead to national catastrophe. The prospect of Donald Trump as commander in chief should send a chill down the spine of every American. </em>[....]</p> </blockquote> <p> </p> </div></div></div> Fri, 13 Mar 2020 23:40:36 +0000 artappraiser comment 277944 at http://dagblog.com In case you were wondering in http://dagblog.com/comment/277941#comment-277941 <a id="comment-277941"></a> <p><em>In reply to <a href="http://dagblog.com/link/trump-must-be-forced-resign-30468">Trump Must Be Forced to Resign</a></em></p> <div class="field field-name-comment-body field-type-text-long field-label-hidden"><div class="field-items"><div class="field-item even"><p>In case you were wondering in fear and loathing:</p> <p> </p><div class="media_embed"> <blockquote class="twitter-tweet" data-lang="en" height="" width=""> <p dir="ltr" lang="en" xml:lang="en">Legal Analysis: No, Trump Can’t Legally Use Coronavirus to Move the 2020 Election and Stay in Office Longer <a href="https://t.co/F7XoYKehOg">https://t.co/F7XoYKehOg</a> via <a href="https://twitter.com/AKellerLawCrime?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw">@AKellerLawCrime</a> <a href="https://t.co/Vo7RcN88Se">pic.twitter.com/Vo7RcN88Se</a></p> — Law &amp; Crime (@lawcrimenews) <a href="https://twitter.com/lawcrimenews/status/1238598768557281286?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw">March 13, 2020</a></blockquote> <script async="" charset="utf-8" height="" src="https://platform.twitter.com/widgets.js" width=""></script></div> </div></div></div> Fri, 13 Mar 2020 22:46:22 +0000 artappraiser comment 277941 at http://dagblog.com "I don't take responsibility http://dagblog.com/comment/277937#comment-277937 <a id="comment-277937"></a> <p><em>In reply to <a href="http://dagblog.com/comment/277929#comment-277929">a good point, as always</a></em></p> <div class="field field-name-comment-body field-type-text-long field-label-hidden"><div class="field-items"><div class="field-item even"><p> </p><div class="media_embed"> <blockquote class="twitter-tweet" data-lang="en" height="" width=""> <p dir="ltr" lang="en" xml:lang="en">"I don't take responsibility at all" is such a huge in-kind donation to the Joe Biden campaign that I wonder if Trump broke campaign finance laws in making it</p> — Ezra Klein (@ezraklein) <a href="https://twitter.com/ezraklein/status/1238584885394075649?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw">March 13, 2020</a></blockquote> <script async="" charset="utf-8" height="" src="https://platform.twitter.com/widgets.js" width=""></script></div> </div></div></div> Fri, 13 Mar 2020 21:59:31 +0000 artappraiser comment 277937 at http://dagblog.com From the former FDA http://dagblog.com/comment/277930#comment-277930 <a id="comment-277930"></a> <p><em>In reply to <a href="http://dagblog.com/comment/277928#comment-277928">I agree with Fineman, whoever</a></em></p> <div class="field field-name-comment-body field-type-text-long field-label-hidden"><div class="field-items"><div class="field-item even"><p> </p><div class="media_embed"> <blockquote class="twitter-tweet" data-lang="en" height="" width=""> <p dir="ltr" lang="en" xml:lang="en">From the former FDA commissioner, who has been sounding the alarm on Twitter for some time &gt; <a href="https://t.co/03wcBFMKYx">https://t.co/03wcBFMKYx</a></p> — Maggie Haberman (@maggieNYT) <a href="https://twitter.com/maggieNYT/status/1238573262189314048?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw">March 13, 2020</a></blockquote> <script async="" charset="utf-8" height="" src="https://platform.twitter.com/widgets.js" width=""></script></div> </div></div></div> Fri, 13 Mar 2020 21:14:23 +0000 artappraiser comment 277930 at http://dagblog.com a good point, as always http://dagblog.com/comment/277929#comment-277929 <a id="comment-277929"></a> <p><em>In reply to <a href="http://dagblog.com/comment/277928#comment-277928">I agree with Fineman, whoever</a></em></p> <div class="field field-name-comment-body field-type-text-long field-label-hidden"><div class="field-items"><div class="field-item even"><p>a good point, as always</p> <p> </p><div class="media_embed"> <blockquote class="twitter-tweet" data-lang="en" height="" width=""> <p dir="ltr" lang="en" xml:lang="en">President Trump, in the course of nearly four years, went from “I alone can fix it” to “I don’t take responsibility at all."</p> — Matt Viser (@mviser) <a href="https://twitter.com/mviser/status/1238567319468728321?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw">March 13, 2020</a></blockquote> <script async="" charset="utf-8" height="" src="https://platform.twitter.com/widgets.js" width=""></script></div> <p>This is, of course the same old "deep state" thing and "the swamp" thing that his fans love.
