While one virus attacks all humans globally and it would make sense that unified at global level would defeat,

global not local definitely has not worked out well as far as medical supply chain problem. Example from a thread, I give only three tweets from it, it's even more complicated if you read the whole thing, it's nothing something as mere as "bureaucracy," it's bigger than that

As far as things like hairdresser licensing, I do recall Yglesias and other neolibs having a major ongoing discussion a few years back about some of the excesses of "credentialism" in general and how they tend to result in little more than frustrating small business with needless bureaucracy and stifling innovation.

In the hairdressing realm, i.e., Afro American lady in the hood does braiding for money in house, it grows to a bigger business, she gets shut down for being a barber without a license even though she only cuts fake hair extensions before she applies them.

Bureaucracy was the enemy here in NYC medical response, what they needed from the government was to over rule it's own rules. I.E., who the fuck cares what state you are licensed in to nurse or whether your license has expired since you retired. Get in here pronto! And like: gimme those things, I don't care if they've gone through all the FDA loopholes or not...Etc.

That was a big mistake on my part. he replied with string of angry emails that "the rest of the country is going to have to bail NY and CA out!" and "the SBA loans are already gone, it is because of bureaucracy and incompetence".

He's got an MBA, not exactly a low info person. Gut wrenching reason not to talk news with him, at the same time it points to how we might get deluded about what's really going on by being in the news junkie bubble that believes that the country is simply divided along pro-Trump and anti-Trump lines.
