I think the above is just proof of the validity of Peracles' title at the top of the thread, questioning why the ACLU was mixing two different kinds of cases. Because if even the Drumpf can express sympathy about this case, and not equivocate in any way, it's so fucking clear cut of a hate crime killing, there's virtually no comparison. (I can only think of one other instance of him doing the sympathy thing--whether fake or not--it was regards the poison gas attacks on "little babies" in Syria.)

President Donald Trump has called the fatal shooting of Ahmaud Arbery, an unarmed black man in the US state of Georgia, a "very disturbing situation".

Mr Arbery was jogging in February when Gregory McMichael and his son Travis, who are white, confronted him. They now face murder and assault charges.

"My heart goes out to the parents and the family and friends," Mr Trump told Fox News on Friday

Speaking on the Fox & Friends programme on Friday morning, the president said he had seen the footage, which he described as "troubling" to anyone who watched it.

Mr Trump said the state's governor and law enforcement would be looking at the case "very strongly".

When asked about the racial issues at play in the case, the president said "justice getting done is the thing that solves that problem".

"But it's a heart-breaking thing."

Ivanka Trump, the president's daughter and a White House adviser, has also weighed in, asking in a tweet "why it seemingly took months, the release of a video and corresponding public outrage to catalyse action".

At a briefing later, White House Press Secretary Kayleigh McEnany was asked whether the US Department of Justice would get involved in the case. Ms McEnany did not rule out the possibility.

The department did not immediately respond to a request for comment from the BBC.

The father in the shooting knew Arbery

Greg McMichael, who provided gun cover for his son as he fought and eventually shot a young black jogger, may have known the victim long before their encounter in a subdivision just south of Brunswick, The Atlanta Journal-Constitution has learned.

In his letter of recusal to Georgia Attorney General Chris Carr, Waycross Judicial Circuit District Attorney George Barnhill wrote that his son, a prosecutor in the Brunswick DA’s office, and McMichael, then an investigator in that same office, “both helped with the previous prosecution of (Ahmaud) Arbery.”

The two men involved in the homicide have been arrested

(CNN)Two men involved in the fatal shooting of Ahmaud Arbery near Brunswick, Georgia, have been arrested and face murder and aggravated assault charges, according to the Georgia Bureau of Investigation.

Gregory McMichael and his son, Travis McMichael, were taken into custody and will be booked into the Glynn County Jail, the GBI said Thursday evening.

Arbery, 25, was jogging in a neighborhood outside Brunswick on February 23 when Gregory McMichael, a former police officer, and his son chased him down, authorities said.

I never said anything about juries. I never said the jury was correct. As always you make up shit to avoid discussion. You're a pathological liar.

I, of course, did not say let the community handle it. I don't accept popular opinion. it's often wrong. The community didn't solve the problem, the police did when they warned the people breaking the law and the people agreed to dismantle the BBQ. Foolish people like you politicized the situation and politicians succumbed to popular demand and decided to ignore valuable health regulations.You never addressed why these regulations exist in virtually every park in America and abroad nor did you address my reasons as to why they exist. You have no arguments to defend your opinions. All you have is avoidance techniques. I no longer try to discuss issues with you.
