And I don't have anything against curfews if the police are busy with an emergency situation, actually I don't understand being against them. There's a lot of bad people out there just waiting for moments when society is totally unguarded. Black Lives Matter protest or a natural disaster, it's the same thing.  First responders can't be everywhere at once. Likewise one of the main reasons we had "stay at home" orders, because health care system can't handle everyone being sick at once.</p> </div></div></div> Wed, 10 Jun 2020 04:45:46 +0000 artappraiser comment 283021 at http://dagblog.com Well, my point was that http://dagblog.com/comment/282972#comment-282972 <a id="comment-282972"></a> <p><em>In reply to <a href="http://dagblog.com/comment/282970#comment-282970">I am more concerned about the</a></em></p> <div class="field field-name-comment-body field-type-text-long field-label-hidden"><div class="field-items"><div class="field-item even"><p>Well, my point was that government could come in and spread around for the small shops for not that much, but yes, it's not that easy - many will just give up after Covid, many have earnings off book so wouldnt be reimburaed, some friend of Trump's would take half the payout, etc. If ONLY we had a functional government, Fed and local.</p> </div></div></div> Tue, 09 Jun 2020 09:11:46 +0000 PeraclesPlease comment 282972 at http://dagblog.com I am more concerned about the http://dagblog.com/comment/282970#comment-282970 <a id="comment-282970"></a> <p><em>In reply to <a href="http://dagblog.com/comment/282967#comment-282967">If we assume damage to most</a></em></p> <div class="field field-name-comment-body field-type-text-long field-label-hidden"><div class="field-items"><div class="field-item even"><p>I am more concerned about the damage to the economy in more businesses giving up and becoming bankrupt adding to the already desperate situation from having to close for coronavirus for <em>months.  </em>All those retail jobs lots of young women like? Gone and now goner. No more boutiques or Macy's. Your choice is CVS, Duane Reade, or Stop N' Shop. People just close the shop and sell shit online on Etsy, fuck having to do payroll anymore.</p> <p>Insurers are being bastards because they are in trouble themselves.</p> <p>Macy's was teetering on the edge already but hoping to survive. Now both their Chicago and NY stores have been hit bad. (Goodbye Thanksgiving parade.)</p> <p>500 Santa Monica stores hit were not fancy boutiques, they were little middle class businesses like comics stores that employ a couple people. These businesses basically live "paycheck to paycheck" just like people. Do you think people who run "dollar stores" are wealthy and have lots of insurance?</p> <p>As the one guy said "you don't want to protect my store, why should I even try?"</p> <p>I think the people vandalized have had a horrible double blow. I would definitely give up, I'm not that strong.</p> <p>Etc. </p> <p>Why even try? Why not just call it quits and let Amazon sell everything and employ everyone formerly in retail? Burn down all the buildings and businesses related to commerce, return the land to nature, let Amazon do everything.</p> </div></div></div> Tue, 09 Jun 2020 07:21:52 +0000 artappraiser comment 282970 at http://dagblog.com If we assume damage to most http://dagblog.com/comment/282967#comment-282967 <a id="comment-282967"></a> <p><em>In reply to <a href="http://dagblog.com/comment/282963#comment-282963">Much of the looting in U.S.</a></em></p> <div class="field field-name-comment-body field-type-text-long field-label-hidden"><div class="field-items"><div class="field-item even"><p>If we assume damage to most shops ran $20k-$100k, how much are we talking to cover damage across the country? 10,000*$100k = $1 billion, not that much money compared to the trillions siphoned off in Covid relief for the rich. Or buying misused military eauipment for police depts.</p> <p>Sure, part of the damage will be time-to-rebuild, lost customer base. And while i understand much of the destruction wasn't essential to the protests, done by criminal gangs or just assholes, still, that billion dollars of damage sends a much more useful message than trillions caused by neglecting to prepare for a pandemic (or tearing down protections that existed).</p> <p>Maybe the NFL can donate $100million to the rebuildung fund as atonement.</p> </div></div></div> Tue, 09 Jun 2020 06:52:00 +0000 PeraclesPlease comment 282967 at http://dagblog.com with arrest photos http://dagblog.com/comment/282964#comment-282964 <a id="comment-282964"></a> <p><em>In reply to <a href="http://dagblog.com/link/buildings-damaged-minneapolis-st-paul-after-riots-31546">Buildings damaged in Minneapolis, St. Paul after riots</a></em></p> <div class="field field-name-comment-body field-type-text-long field-label-hidden"><div class="field-items"><div class="field-item even"><p>with arrest photos &amp; local news video report on how police are tracking them down:</p> <p> </p><div class="media_embed"> <blockquote height="" width=""> <p>A week after looting and vandalism in downtown Scottsdale, 26 people face charges related to the damage. <a href="https://t.co/aYLA7c1SH6">https://t.co/aYLA7c1SH6</a></p> — 12 News (@12News) <a href="https://twitter.com/12News/status/1269454581039325184?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw">June 7, 2020</a></blockquote> </div> </div></div></div> Tue, 09 Jun 2020 06:23:46 +0000 artappraiser comment 282964 at http://dagblog.com Much of the looting in U.S. http://dagblog.com/comment/282963#comment-282963 <a id="comment-282963"></a> <p><em>In reply to <a href="http://dagblog.com/link/buildings-damaged-minneapolis-st-paul-after-riots-31546">Buildings damaged in Minneapolis, St. Paul after riots</a></em></p> <div class="field field-name-comment-body field-type-text-long field-label-hidden"><div class="field-items"><div class="field-item even"><p> </p><div class="media_embed"> <blockquote class="twitter-tweet" height="" width=""> <p dir="ltr" lang="en" xml:lang="en">Much of the looting in U.S. cities appears to have been perpetrated by organized groups who saw the protests as a low-risk chance to commit crimes <a href="https://t.co/hTa28ucIkL">https://t.co/hTa28ucIkL</a></p> — The Wall Street Journal (@WSJ) <a href="https://twitter.com/WSJ/status/1267980585332617217?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw">June 3, 2020</a></blockquote> <script async="" charset="utf-8" height="" src="https://platform.twitter.com/widgets.js" width=""></script></div> </div></div></div> Tue, 09 Jun 2020 06:06:08 +0000 artappraiser comment 282963 at http://dagblog.com Leaked conference call shows http://dagblog.com/comment/282962#comment-282962 <a id="comment-282962"></a> <p><em>In reply to <a href="http://dagblog.com/link/buildings-damaged-minneapolis-st-paul-after-riots-31546">Buildings damaged in Minneapolis, St. Paul after riots</a></em></p> <div class="field field-name-comment-body field-type-text-long field-label-hidden"><div class="field-items"><div class="field-item even"><p> </p><div class="media_embed"> <blockquote class="twitter-tweet" height="" width=""> <p dir="ltr" lang="en" xml:lang="en">Leaked conference call shows Chicago aldermen weeping about the amount of damage from looting in their districts, as what little security the city had seemed to primarily guard the richest parts <a href="https://t.co/YOW8fCdR1P">https://t.co/YOW8fCdR1P</a></p> — Zaid Jilani (@ZaidJilani) <a href="https://twitter.com/ZaidJilani/status/1270179767472590848?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw">June 9, 2020</a></blockquote> <script async="" charset="utf-8" height="" src="https://platform.twitter.com/widgets.js" width=""></script></div> </div></div></div> Tue, 09 Jun 2020 05:53:09 +0000 artappraiser comment 282962 at http://dagblog.com A manufacturing company that http://dagblog.com/comment/282961#comment-282961 <a id="comment-282961"></a> <p><em>In reply to <a href="http://dagblog.com/link/buildings-damaged-minneapolis-st-paul-after-riots-31546">Buildings damaged in Minneapolis, St. Paul after riots</a></em></p> <div class="field field-name-comment-body field-type-text-long field-label-hidden"><div class="field-items"><div class="field-item even"><p> </p><div class="media_embed"> <blockquote class="twitter-tweet" height="" width=""> <p dir="ltr" lang="en" xml:lang="en">A manufacturing company that has been in Minneapolis since 1987 has decided to leave the city.<br /><br /> The company’s owner said he can’t trust public officials who allowed his plant to burn during the recent riots: “They don’t care about my business.” <a href="https://t.co/rMcZgudJCb">https://t.co/rMcZgudJCb</a></p> — Star Tribune (@StarTribune) <a href="https://twitter.com/StarTribune/status/1270047461822824449?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw">June 8, 2020</a></blockquote> <script async="" charset="utf-8" height="" src="https://platform.twitter.com/widgets.js" width=""></script></div> </div></div></div> Tue, 09 Jun 2020 05:51:28 +0000 artappraiser comment 282961 at http://dagblog.com
